Job summary

The Translational Metabolic Phenotyping and Nutrition Core at the University of Louisville seeks a Research Technician I to support preclinical and human translational studies focused on exercise, metabolism, nutrition, and cardiometabolic health. You will perform experiments, manage data, and assist with protocol refinement under the Core Director.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Interest in engineering or quantitative approaches to physiology and metabolism.
• Experience with laboratory instrumentation and data collection.

Responsibilities

• Conduct mouse-based research procedures including animal handling and metabolic phenotyping.
• Set up, operate, calibrate, and maintain advanced Core instrumentation (promethion systems, Seahorse, body composition devices).
• Assist with human metabolic phenotyping studies using whole-room calorimeters and related measurements.
• Perform experiments with established protocols, ensuring accuracy and documentation.
• Collect and process multiparametric data; compile measurements for review by Core Director.
• Use software and analysis tools to process data and generate visualizations.
• Assist with onboarding and training of students and junior researchers.
• Communicate progress and equipment needs to Core Director; support procedural improvements.
• Maintain laboratory readiness including inventory, logs, and compliance.
