Mercury Marine is seeking an Intern Design Analysis Engineer‑Fluid & Thermal in Fond du Lac, WI. You will apply CFD and heat‑transfer fundamentals to real‑world marine propulsion challenges, under the Design Analysis Group (DAG).

This paid internship runs over the summer with strong hands‑on learning in a fast‑paced environment. Ideal candidates are enrolled in a BS program (Mechanical/Aerospace/Naval Architecture), with 40+ hours/week availability from May through August 2027, and an interest

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in a BS program in Mechanical/Aerospace/Engineering Mechanics/Naval Architecture or similar.
• Sophomore status with 48 credits completed.
• Full‑time availability May–Aug 2027.
• Ability to enroll in a formalized co‑op/intern program.

Responsibilities

• Learn to use CFD software (SIEMENS StarCCM+) to analyze propulsion systems and heat transfer.
• Use GT Suite to predict engine horsepower and torque for performance insight.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams on product development tasks.

This role offers a unique opportunity to develop technical expertise in fluid dynamics and heat transfer, collaborate with cross‑functional teams, and make meaningful contributions to innovation in a fast‑paced engineering environment.

Essential Functions

• The scope of the intern will be tailored to meet the interests of the candidate, and it is possible to get exposure to multiple areas over the duration of the intern term
• Design Analysis interns will work on multiple projects, and it is typical for an analyst to complete 6‑8 projects covering varying aspects of the propulsion system during their intern assignment
• You will learn to use CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) software (SIEMENS StarCCM+) to improve the design and development of marine propulsion systems, drive systems, and vessels for optimized fluid flow and heat transfer
• Individuals with interest in engines will be given an opportunity to use engine performance prediction software (GT Suite) to predict and optimize the horsepower and torque of marine engines and determine how these performance curves affect the acceleration and top speed of the boat
• In addition to a great hands‑on learning experience, you will also acquire the skills needed to work in a team environment supporting all aspects of the product development cycle from concept to production

Required Qualifications

• Current enrollment in a BS program with a major in Mechanical/Aerospace/Engineering Mechanics/Naval Arch Engineering or similar
• Minimum second semester sophomore status with 48 completed credits
• Availability to work full‑time (40 or more hours per week) through a the summer months of May through August 2027
• The ability to enroll in a formalized co‑op/intern Program through your university
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Interest in fluid dynamics, heat transfer and numerical methods
• Boating, fishing and/or marine experience is beneficial but not required
• Dependable, self‑motivated, and engaged learner

The pay range for this position is $18.00-27.50 per hour. The actual hourly rate offered will vary depending on multiple factors including year in school/credits earned, degree, job‑related knowledge/skills, relevant experience, business needs, and geographic location. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the specifics of the candidate’s qualifications and the business context.
