Job summary

Scoular Co. is hiring a Merchandising Assistant II to perform critical accounting duties for the trade units, handling freight payments, daily cash receipts, and receivables. The role emphasizes teamwork, customer relations, and process improvements in a dynamic logistics environment.

The MA II will support merchandisers, train new assistants, and collaborate with internal teams to resolve issues and optimize logistics from origin to destination.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Excellent customer service skills and strong teamwork.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Strong problem solving and analytical abilities.
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks, with occasional overtime.

Responsibilities

• Process freight payments and daily ticket uploads; manage cash receipts and unapplied cash.
• Assist merchandiser and customers with freight/logistical issues and accounting questions.
• Maintain positive customer and vendor relations; monitor cash flow and credit risk.
• Collaborate with internal teams to solve problems and support tech enhancements.
• Assist in training Merchandiser Assistants and manage logistics from origin to destination.
• Monthly inventory reconciliations and review AR/AP, Freight Analysis reports.
• Provide feedback to Merchandisers and work with the Assistant Controller on policy adherence.

The Merchandising Assistant II (MA II) has primary responsibility for effectively performing all accounting tasks relating to the business unit(s) assigned in an efficient manner following all company and market group policies and procedures. The MA II exhibits excellent customer service skills, attention to detail teamwork and a willingness to embrace change and new technology. This role is responsible for maintaining positive customer and trucker/vendor relations and proactively monitors and reports cash flow and credit risk. This role requires strong teamwork with other business units and will assist in training new merchandisers and merchandiser assistants (MAs). This role reviews business reports for the assigned business units and serves as a primary resource for merchandiser and MA questions. The MA II strives for continuous improvement and embraces new technology and changes to processes and procedures.

• Responsible for effectively performing assigned accounting tasks relating to the trade unit(s) in an efficient and accurate manner including but not limited to: Process freight payments/ticket upload or creation daily, final settlements, process daily cash receipts and follow up on outstanding receivables and unapplied cash.
• Assist merchandiser and customers with freight/logistical issues and accounting questions.
• Maintains positive customer and trucker/vendor relations and proactively monitors and reports cash flow and credit risk.
• Collaborates with both internal and external customers to proactively identify and solve problems.
• Partner with internal teams to support and promote technology enhancements.
• Assist in training new Merchandiser Assistants and other various roles. Assists with elevator, truck, and rail transportation and logistics from origin to destination with a cost-effective, efficient logistic action plan.
• Monthly reconciliation of inventories.
• Review reports including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Freight Analysis and other miscellaneous reports on a daily/weekly basis and identify actionable items and resolve.
• Develop a basic understanding of our business to identify potential issues or opportunities and provide useful feedback to the Merchandisers.
• Collaborates with Assistant Controller to ensure procedures/policies are followed.

About You

• High school diploma or GED.
• Excellent customer service skills, positive attitude and strong teamwork skills.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately and efficiently.
• Experience working with Microsoft Office systems and demonstrate strong proficiency in Excel.
• High level of independent problem solving and critical thinking skills to drive solutions.
• Strong detail-orientation and accuracy.
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks.
• Strong mathematical and analytical ability.
• Ability to work with a wide variety of people.
• Able to work occasional overtime.

PreferredQualifications:

• Associates/Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in Agri-business.
• Advanced knowledge of spreadsheets and accounting software, along with desire to learn new programs.
