Job summary

Interwest Consulting Group is seeking an experienced MEP Plans Examiner to join our municipal services team. The role involves reviewing plans for CA codes across commercial, industrial, and residential projects and collaborating with city staff to ensure compliance.

The ideal candidate holds a CA PE license, may have ICC MEP certifications, and has 5+ years reviewing CA Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing codes.

Qualifications

• CA Professional Engineer license required.
• ICC Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Plans Examiner certifications preferred.
• 5+ years' experience reviewing plans for CA Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Codes.

Responsibilities

• Reviews plans to ensure CA Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing code compliance for commercial, industrial, and residential projects.
• Attend preconstruction meetings with contractors and/or developers as requested.
• Provides technical direction and assistance to inspection personnel for field problems.
• Assesses and resolves concerns from clients, applicants, public, designers, and contractors.
• Regularly interacts with municipal clients and staff.
• Keeps up to date with different editions of the International Building Code.

We are currently seeking a talented and experienced MEP Plans Examiner to join our team of professionals. This position offers great opportunity for dynamic, motivated self-starters to work on a variety of work assignments. RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Reviews all plans and specifications for commercial, industrial, and residential projects to ensure compliance with city, state, and federal laws and regulations pertaining to CA Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing codes.
• Attend preconstruction meetings with contractors and/or developers as requested.
• Provides technical direction and assistance to inspection personnel relating to field problems.
• Assess and resolve concerns received from clients, applicants, public, designers, and contractors.
• Regularly interacts directly with municipal clients and their staff.
• Attends meetings, educational seminars, and functions relating to building codes.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

• Extensive knowledge of local building codes and current construction procedures/technology.
• Strong knowledge of California codes and guidelines
• Must possess the ability to positively interact with other staff members, the general public, contractors, governmental agencies, and other clientele.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Good time management, organization, and attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and a considerable amount of independent judgment.
• Ability to prepare written plan review correspondence and update information in software programs.
• Candidate must be able to handle multiple projects in a fast paced atmosphere.
• Candidate must stay familiar and up to date with different editions of the International Building Codes.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• CA Professional Engineer required
• ICC Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Plans Examiner certifications preferred.
• 5+ years' experience reviewing plans for CA Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Codes
