Job summary

RK&K seeks an experienced MEP Inspector to support facility rehabilitation and modernization in the greater Philadelphia area. Work occurs in active, occupied facilities with phased shutdowns and strict safety controls.

Inspect MEP systems, coordinate with operations, and document tests, punch lists, and safety compliance in a demanding on-site environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of MEP construction inspection experience; vertical transportation or similar facility preferred.
• Knowledge of elevator/escalator, electrical, and life-safety codes and standards.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, wiring diagrams, and specifications.
• Proficiency with field documentation and reporting software.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid driver's license and favorable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily field inspection of MEP work in occupied facilities.
• Verify installed work against drawings, specs, submittals, and changes.
• Witness testing, commissioning, and acceptance activities.
• Inspect power, lighting, ventilation, drainage, and fire alarm interfaces.
• Prepare daily inspection reports, track deficiencies, and close punch lists.
• Monitor contractor safety and public protection in occupied spaces.
• Support schedule tracking, quantity verification, and as-built docs.

Description

We are seeking an experienced MEP Inspector in the greater Philadelphia area to support facility rehabilitation and modernization program. Work is performed in an active, occupied facility and involves phased shutdowns, coordination with facility operations, and strict public-safety controls.

Essential Functions

• Perform daily field inspection of MEP and related work supporting facility demolition, installation, and modernization
• Verify installed work against drawings, specifications, approved submittals, and change documentation
• Witness and document testing, commissioning, and acceptance activities
• Inspect power and control wiring, grounding, lighting, ventilation, drainage, and fire alarm interfaces
• Prepare daily inspection reports documenting manpower, equipment, progress, delays, and nonconforming conditions
• Identify and track deficiencies through correction and punch list closeout
• Monitor contractor compliance with safety requirements and protection of the public in occupied areas
• Verify material deliveries against approved submittals
• Support the Construction Manger with schedule tracking, quantity verification, and as-built documentation
• Attend progress, coordination, and safety meetings

Required Skills and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical/trade school or degree preferred
• 5+ years of MEP construction inspection experience; vertical transportation or similar facility experience preferred
• Working knowledge of applicable elevator/escalator, electrical, and life-safety codes and standards
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, wiring diagrams, control schematics, and specifications
• Proficiency with field documentation and reporting software
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Valid driver’s license and favorable driving record

Preferred Skills

• Licensed electrician or equivalent trade background
• Relevant inspection certifications (ICC, NICET, or state-issued)
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction
• Prior experience on public agency projects

Working Conditions

• Active construction site within an operating facility
• Climbing ladders and stairs; working in pits, trusses, and machine spaces
• Night, weekend, and shift work may be required
• PPE required at all times
