Job summary

Force Design, Inc. in Columbus, Indiana is seeking an experienced MEP Designer to create, review, and manage documents for mechanical, electrical and/or plumbing systems.

The role involves preparing plans, securing permits, and ensuring compliance with building codes. The position requires experience in HVAC, plumbing and electrical design, proficiency in AutoCAD MEP and Revit MEP, and a degree in engineering with PE licensure considered a plus.

Qualifications

• Experience in building HVAC, plumbing and electrical design.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD MEP / Revit MEP; ability to use compatible M/E/P design software.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent.
• Professional Engineering licensure a plus.
• Familiarity with building codes, ASHRAE guidelines and energy codes and modeling.
• Ability to work well with an entire project team, including the customer, construction estimator, construction project manager, site engineer, structural engineer, and various vendors and subcontractors.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Organization and ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
• Confidential handling of customer and employer intellectual property.

Responsibilities

• Prepare design drawings and specifications, including information tables, details and sketches, based on owner, process or facility programmatic information.
• Create plan sections, bill of materials, detail drawings, etc. for projects.
• Manage files such as updating plans sheets and models, posting documents and models, reviewing and posting subcontractor or vendor submittals, RFI, etc.
• Develop/plot proposal, permit and construction drawings and specifications for building projects or process systems.
• Develop equipment and/or material schedules and material takeoffs.
• Support Construction Estimators and Project Managers in preparing bids scopes for subcontractors and vendors.
• Maintain technical knowledge by attending workshops and reviewing publications.
• Assist Construction PM/Engineering staff with ongoing project functions like researching specs and contacting vendors.
• Meet with Customers/Clients to understand equipment needs.
• Maintain knowledge of model codes to ensure compliance.
• Collaborate with other design disciplines, Estimator/PM, Marketing, Site team, etc.
• Send drawings to State Agencies for approval, permits, etc.
• Other items as required.
