Job summary

The Mental Health Therapist (Master’s Level) at Children's Hospital of the King’s Daughters conducts mental health assessments and provides evidence-based therapies to children and their families under the supervision of a Licensed Mental Health Therapist. Reports to department leadership.

Develops individualized treatment plans, coordinates with medical care providers, and participates in on-call rotations as needed.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling or Mental Health required.
• 6 months of therapy and assessment experience required.
• Must be in the process of working towards Virginia clinical license and complete licensure within 3 years.
• Must complete MATCH and other evidence-based trainings as determined by leadership.

Responsibilities

• Conduct mental health evaluations to identify symptoms and psychosocial stressors.
• Develop individualized treatment plans to address diagnoses and symptoms.
• Provide evidence-based therapies to children with mental health diagnoses and co-occurring conditions.
• Complete psychosocial evaluations, progress notes, and treatment plans per best practices and guidelines.
• Coordinate care with patients' medical providers for integrated care.
• Lead or co-facilitate evidence-based groups as needed.
• Participate in department on-call as required.

Job description

The Mental Health Therapist (Master’s Level) is responsible for conducting mental health assessments and providing evidence-based therapies to patients and their families under the supervision of a Licensed Mental Health Therapist. Reports to department leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conducts mental health evaluations to identify mental health symptoms and psychosocial stressors and/or supports to include chronic illness, trauma, disability, primary support group, educational experiences, social environment, legal system and other psychosocial or environmental factors.
• Develops an individualized treatment plan to address identified diagnoses and symptoms.
• Provides evidenced based therapies to children with mental health diagnoses and co-occurring acute or chronic illness, trauma, or disability.
• Completes comprehensive evaluations for review by the broader treatment team (such as treating MD referral source).
• Completes psychosocial evaluations, progress notes and individualized treatment plans in accordance with the established best practice and third-party guidelines.
• Evaluates children and adolescents at risk for harm to self or others to determine the appropriate level of care and facilitates admission to inpatient psychiatric facilities and/or referrals to other community mental health services, as appropriate.
• Obtains outcome measures, through use of psychometric tools to track clinical trends and share data on patient progress with collaborating physicians.
• Leads coordination efforts with patients' medical care providers to ensure seamless integration of medical and mental health care.
• Runs evidence-based groups as a co-facilitator.
• May participate in department on-call as needed.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS

Required Licenses and/or Certifications

• Must be in the process of working towards clinical hours of a current Virginia clinical license (Licensed Clinical Social Work or Licensed Professional Counselor).
• Must complete all licensure requirements within 3 years.
• Must complete all training requirements that is determined by department leadership, including MATCH and any other evidence-based trainings offered.

Preferred Licenses and/or Certifications

• None preferred.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Required Education and Experience

• Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling or Mental Health required.
• 6 months of therapy and assessment experience required.

Preferred Education and Experience

• One to two years of related work experience preferred (including internship) and approval letter toward clinical supervision.
• Experience with implementing evidence-based treatments with children and families in both individual and group treatment modalities preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills necessary.
• Ability to work as a multidisciplinary team member.
• Position may require occasional travel to offsite locations.
