Job summary

CloseKnit seeks a licensed Mental Health Therapist to provide virtual care across Washington, DC and surrounding regions. This 1099 independent contractor role supports youth, adolescents, and adults using evidence-based modalities, with telehealth delivery and flexible scheduling.

Ideal candidates hold an active DC/MD/VA license (or willingness to obtain), at least 3 years of therapy experience, and strong communication and documentation skills. Remote work with ~10–15 hours weekly is offered.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in social work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field.
• Active independent clinical licensure in Washington, DC, Maryland or Virginia (or willingness to obtain).
• Minimum of 3 years of clinical therapy experience with youth, adults, and behavioral health challenges.
• Experience treating patients ages 13 and older.
• Experience delivering telehealth services.
• Knowledge of evidence-based modalities and interventions (CBT, DBT).
• Strong communication, relationship-building, documentation, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive assessments of behavioral, emotional, and mental health needs.
• Develop individualized treatment plans aligned with client goals.
• Provide evidence-based individual and family therapy using CBT/DBT modalities.
• Deliver care virtually.
• Track client progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, including progress notes and outcomes.
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals.
• Communicate treatment plans, progress, and recommendations with clients and families.
• Provide crisis intervention and safety planning as needed.
• Educate clients and families on mental health conditions and coping strategies.

Education

Position Summary

This position is available for a 1099 Independent contractor based on experience, licensure coverage, and organizational needs. Clinical services are delivered entirely via telehealth.

Requirements

• Master's degree in social work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field.
• Active independent clinical licensure in at least one of the following jurisdictions: Washington, DC, Maryland (MD), or Virginia (VA). Willing to get licensed in additional states preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience providing therapy to youth, adults, and individuals experiencing behavioral health challenges.
• Experience treating patients ages 13 and older.
• Strong knowledge of evidence-based therapeutic modalities and interventions.
• Excellent communication, relationship-building, documentation, and organizational skills.
• Experience providing telehealth services.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with specialized populations or treatment areas such as trauma, anxiety, depression, substance use disorders, or grief and loss.
• Familiarity with Athena One EHR and electronic health record documentation standards.

Other Requirements

Assessment & Evaluation:

Monitoring & Documentation:

• Work collaboratively with primary care physicians, psychiatrists, psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners, social workers, case managers, and other healthcare professionals.
• Communicate treatment plans, progress, and recommendations with clients, families, and stakeholders.

Crisis Intervention:

• Provide crisis intervention and support to clients in acute distress.
• Develop safety plans and strategies to prevent or mitigate crises.

Education & Support:

• Educate clients and families on mental health conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies.

Contract Commitment:

• Contracted commitment of approximately 10-15 hours per week. Flexible scheduling options available, including daytime, evening, and weekend hours.
• Expected to maintain a consistent patient volume commensurate with contracted hours and organizational access needs.
