Job summary

Houston Methodist West Hospital is seeking a dedicated Mental Health Technician (MHT) to advance patient care under the guidance of registered nurses. You will support physiological and psychosocial needs and use therapeutic communication techniques to promote safety and dignity.

The role includes documenting care, performing delegated tasks, and reporting observations. Travel to conduct home visits may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1 year experience as Mental Health Technician in a psychiatric/substance abuse setting.
• 3 years as nursing/patient care assistant with crisis management training in a hospital setting.
• BLS Basic Life Support certification (or Instructor) required.
• NVCRISIS nonviolent crisis intervention certification within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care under RN supervision.
• Record data, perform treatments, and report observations.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff.
• Travel to conduct home visits as needed.
• Maintain patient safety and respond to crises as part of the interprofessional team.
