Job summary

Kindred Hospital Chicago - North is seeking a Mental Health Tech to support nursing on psychiatric units, providing basic care, facilitating group therapy, and assisting patients with ADLs under RN supervision.

The successful candidate will assist with assessments, contribute to treatment plans, and maintain patient safety while documenting progress and outcomes for each shift.

Job Summary

The Mental Health Tech functions as a member of the nursing team in providing a basic level of general and psychiatric care of the patients on the Mental Health Units, including individual therapy, leading group therapy (process groups), fully assisting patients with ADL’s, secondary care to patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Essential Functions

• Assesses patients using physical and psycho-social assessment skills.


• Participates in the development of a nursing problem list upon completion of initial assessment upon admission.


• Implements aspects of nursing care plan and evaluates its outcome for each patient to whom assigned. Write progress notes each shift.


• Develops, coordinates and implements multidisciplinary treatment plans.


• Assure patient safety by closely monitoring patients on precautions and assisting with those required restraints.


• Charts accurately supporting patient’s diagnosis.


• Apply the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age related physical and mental care appropriate to the age of patient.
