Job summary

Cooper University Health Care in Camden, NJ seeks a Nursing Assistant to support RNs in a mental health setting. Responsibilities include direct care, vital signs, glucose checks, specimen collection, and patient education under multidisciplinary supervision.

Requires 2 years in mental health/forensics or addictions, an associate degree, BLS, and flexible PRN hours with shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., across a 6-week cycle.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years' experience in a mental health, forensic or addictions setting.
• Associate degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred in Psychology or related field.
• American Heart Association BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Registered Nurse in direct, indirect and non-patient care responsibilities.
• Perform vital signs, glucose checks, specimen collections and patient education.
• Conduct 1:1 observation, milieu counseling and treatment planning as part of the care team.
• Maintain documentation, control logs, visitor/meal monitoring and safety procedures.

Short Description

Assists the Registered Nurse in providing direct, indirect and non-patient care responsibilities. Contributes to quality patient care by serving as a significant member of the multidisciplinary treatment team in providing therapeutic groups and activities, milieu counseling and management. Performs patient care observation rounds, 1:1 observation, environmental rounds, vital signs, control logs, glucose checks, specimen collections, treatment planning, patient education, visitor & meal monitoring, belongings and body checks and documentation as needed. Uses verbal de-escalation techniques to manage disruptive patient behaviors, in addition to limit-setting and physical restraint application as directed, and functions as a valuable member of the treatment team during a psychiatric code and Code Grey.

Experience Required

Minimum of 2 years' experience in a mental health, forensic or addictions setting.

Education Requirements

Associate degree required, Bachelor's degree preferred, in Psychology or related study.

License/Certification Requirements

American Heart Association BLS
