Job summary

Ahhmgt is seeking a Mental Health Technician to provide direct care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. You will observe and document patient behavior, assist with daily living activities, and participate in groups and activities to support treatment plans.

You will help maintain safety and respond to emergencies, using critical thinking and communication to support patients with acute or chronic mental health conditions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma preferred; related coursework in psychiatric/psychology a plus.
• One year of experience with acute or chronic mentally ill clients; inpatient setting preferred.
• Physical strength and agility to assist agitated patients and apply restraints if needed.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
• Mental alertness and ability to think critically and react quickly in emergencies.

Job description

The MHT provides direct care under the supervision and guidance of a Registered Nurse. The MHT provides treatment and therapeutic services as directed, observes, evaluates, documents and communicates patients’ behavior, reactions, appearance, progress and declining condition, assists in maintaining patients’ safety within the environment, participates in groups and program activities, assists patients with activities of daily living and responses to emergencies as appropriate.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma preferred and additional schooling in psychiatric/psychology related areas a plus.
• One year experience working with acute or chronic mentally ill clients, preferably in the inpatient hospital setting preferred.
• Physical strength and agility to assist with an agitated and disruptive patient; apply behavioral restraints in a quick and efficient manner; perform other routine physical functions of the job; and withstand unusual stress factors working closely with others.
• Requires mental alertness and the ability to think critically and react quickly in critical situations.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English
