Position Details

The Hospital of the University Cedar Location seeks a Mental Health Technician to join our Inpatient Psych Team. Our acute psychiatric units at HUP Cedar Avenue provide short-term management for patients experiencing acute mental or psychiatric disorders, with some having secondary addiction diagnoses. Units are locked, 16-bed acute care services admitting adults voluntarily or involuntarily, aiming to provide a therapeutic milieu and restore patients to community functioning.

Responsibilities
  • Assist patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse with activities that do not require full nursing skills.
  • Communicate effectively, demonstrating active listening and clarity.
  • Support patients in daily activities, setting appropriate limits, and providing reality orientation.
  • Maintain a non-judgmental, therapeutic approach with patients and families.
  • Ensure safety and infection control policies are followed, reporting hazards promptly.
Qualifications
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a human service field involving direct contact, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
