Job summary

The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services is seeking a Mental Health Technician 3 to provide non-professional direct care for consumers in an inpatient behavioral health setting. You will assist in de-escalation, safety, transportation to medical appointments, and support scheduled programming.

Responsibilities include modeling calm problem solving, facilitating recreational and therapeutic activities, and supporting a safe, respectful environment for adults 18+.

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in providing patient care.
  • Must pass OSBI background check.
  • Willing and able to travel and have a valid driver&rsquos license.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Provide non-professional direct care for consumers in an inpatient behavioral health setting.
  • Participate in de-escalation activities and ensure consumer safety.
  • Assist in transporting residents to medical appointments and carry out scheduled programming.
  • Assist in providing recreational and therapeutic activities and serve as a role model for consumers.

About the Position:

The TCBHNursingand AdmissionsDepartmentis hiring foraMental Health Technician3that would providenon-professional direct care for consumers of behavioral health treatment in an inpatientsetting. This includes participation in de-escalation activities and assuring that consumers are kept safe. This position acts as a role model for consumers,demonstratingeffective problem solving and decision-making skills and willassistin providing recreational and therapeutic activities for the consumer, transporting residents to and from medical appointments, and assuring scheduled programming is carried out.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
  • MHT3 -Education and experiencerequiredat this level consists of two years of experience in providing patient care.
Special Requirements:
  • Applicant must be able to pass an OSBI background check.
  • Applicant must be willing and able to fulfill any job-related travel normally associated with this position and as such have a valid driver's license.
  • Upon a conditional offer of employment, Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services applicants mustsubmitto a physical examination and shall meet the physical examination requirements of occasionally lifting/carrying 50 pounds and able to push and pull a maximum force of 25 pounds.

About us:

The Tulsa Center for Behavioral Health (TCBH) is a psychiatric hospital accredited by The Joint Commission, dedicated to delivering evidence-based, patient-centered care. TCBH provides a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment that supports recovery and enhances quality of life for individuals and the community. The facility serves adults aged 18 and older who are experiencing a mental health crisis, with or without co-occurring substance use disorders, and who are medically stable.

In response to the increasing need for mental health services in our community, TCBH is being replaced by a new facility, the Oklahoma Psychiatric Care Center (OPCC). Situated in the OSU Academic Medical District in downtown Tulsa, this modern psychiatric hospital will feature 106 inpatient beds, an expanded residency program, and an enhanced range of behavioral health services. Construction of the OPCC is currently in progress.

Drug and Alcohol Pre-employment and Pre-placement Testing: Upon a conditional offer of employment, applicants for safety sensitive positions shall be required tosubmitto urinalysis to test for drugs.Appointment to a safety sensitive position shall be contingent upon a negative drug test result.
