Mental Health Technician II - Dale County Day TreatmentThis position will be located at our Dale County Day Treatment in Ozark, ALMonday-Friday 7am-3pmPOSITION SUMMARY/FUNCTIONPerforms various patient care activities to care for the personal needs and comfort of the client as well as for the effective and efficient operation of the facility, while promoting a safe and therapeutic milieu. Staff is expected to teach basic living skills to clients daily, as well as perform various functions within the facility. This position is an “awake” position; therefore, no sleeping is permitted while on duty.ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBLITIES/FUNCTIONS/TASKS:1. Assist with the Day Treatment program.A. Assist with activities of the program, including arts and crafts, field trips, etc..B. Assist therapists with client curriculum requirements.C. Assist with monitoring client chore assignments.D. Report unusual client behavior to therapists.E. Develop rapport with Day Treatment clients, forming a relationship in order to facilitate the therapeutic environment.F. Maintains records of attendance for the program.2. Assist with serving clients food and/or light snacks.A. Comply with SpectraCare policies and procedures in regards to serving snacks and/or food. Ensure proper protocol is followed when serving.B. Ensure that food storage, preparation and dining areas are kept clean and orderly.C. Assists with the serving of snacks and/or meals.3. Cleans and directs others in cleaning equipment, dining facilities, and program environment.A. Adhere to health and sanitation standards set for personal cleanliness and cleanliness of all helpers.B. Maintains appropriate cleanliness standards for the dining area and its equipment enabling acceptable inspection scores.4. Completes necessary documentation required to include but not limited to incident reports, client progress notes, basic living skills, etc.A. Complete clerical forms as needed and required by SpectraCare and DMH policy.B. Complete EMAR reports and documents as specified by SpectraCare policy.C. Complete other reports to include but not limited to temperature reports (refrigerator), fire drills, etc.5. Operate and maintain System vehicles, to include wheelchair/handicap vehicles. Transports clients to and from Day Treatment.A. Assists clients on and off of the vehicle, to include clients with limited mobility.B. Conduct system vehicle maintenance checklist as required by SpectraCare policy.C. Maintain cleanliness of vehicles.D. Drive clients to various appointments, outings, as required.E. Follow guidelines of Cell Phone policy while driving system vehicles.F. Maintain gas receipts and turn in on a timely basis.G. Maintain vehicle fire extinguisher, first aid kit and markers.H. Report vehicle problems to supervisor.I. Follow policies for breakdowns, accidents, etc..J. Be familiar with the Vehicle Operator's Manual.K. Maintain Commercial CDL if required.L. Maintain a safe driving record.M. Correctly loading and unloading wheelchair users on lift to ensure safety as needed.N. Correctly secure wheelchair users on bus safely by ensuring wheelchair and client is strapped in securely utilizing the correct belts to prevent injuries.O. Do not drive under awnings or through drive-thru on system vehicle.6. Assist other staff as necessary in dealing with clients in a day treatment setting.7. Performs other duties including but not limited to:A. Treat clients with respect and courtesy at all times.B. Ensure necessary documentation is completed in a timely manner with minimal errors and in compliance with applicable guidelines and policies.C. Receive and respond to inquiries promptly and courteously.D. Meet with supervisor as established.E. Follow guidelines of SpectraCare Personnel Policy, SpectraCare Clinical Policy, including but not limited to the Alabama Administrative Code, CMS, and all other applicable regulating and contractual entities.F. Participate in training, workshops, in-services, and/or administrative meetings as assigned.G. Ensure any necessary documentation is completed and up to date before annual leave or personal leave is taken.H. Provide all support staff duties for absent secretary where needed and requested by supervisor.I. Adhere to Dress Code as set forth in the SpectraCare policies and procedures.J. Provide basic living skills daily as expected, conducting group and/or individual BLS.K. Respond to emergency and/or crisis situations as they arise.L. Functions and performs well in stressful environments and manages work related stress toensure client/staff safety.M. Demonstrates a willingness to work on any unit / program at SpectraCare based on facilityneeds as directed.N. Ability to conform to SpectraCare’s Core Values as duties are carried out daily.O. Functions within professional boundaries with individuals and others.P. Works in a cooperative manner with other SpectraCare employees, individuals, and/or family members.Q. Participates in beginning/end of shift unit reporting.R. Performs duties independently and/or with minimal supervision.S. Perform all duties with the highest standard of ethics.T. Works well with other staff and individuals to ensure safety of program, individuals and other staff.U. Other services, tasks, functions, and responsibilities deemed necessary; not otherwise specified.8. Regular attendance with timely arrival and departure according to scheduled hours.Must be able to work full time with rotating assignments as necessary to include but not limited to overtime hours, nights and/or weekends as scheduled.To ensure client safety while on duty, must remain awake during scheduled working hours.9. Fulfill duties of Nurse Delegation Program.A. Become fully certified as a Medication Administration Certified (MAC) provider.B. Follow all regulations as outlined in the MAC policies including but not limited to the Seven (7) Rights and Responsibilities, training, consultation with RN/LPN, error reporting, etc.C. Comply with all documentation requirements of the MAC program including the MARS, counting and recording controlled substances, PRN medications, sign out sheets for home visits, and medication errors reporting sheets.NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBLITIES/FUNCTIONS/TASKS:Attend all required job-related/system training.Assist in other areas as needed.Assumes other related duties as assigned.Conforms to System’s policies and procedures.ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:Knowledge of mental illness, and/or substance use.Knowledge and understanding of crisis intervention techniques.Ability to have patience and emotional stability.Ability to respond professionally in a crisis situation.Ability to communicate with mental ill/substance use individuals and staff, in a professional manner, both written and oral.Ability to perform a wide variety of job tasks.Knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic.Knowledge of office practices and procedures.Ability to operate office machines such as computer, fax machine, and copy machine.Ability to read instruction manuals printed in English.Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.Ability to perform a wide variety of job tasks, in a safe manner without endangering any employee, client, or asset.Ability to follow through with assignments with minimal supervision.Ability to follow orders and directives and work with supervisor and other staff.Ability to adhere to SpectraCare policy, HIPAA laws, and 42 CFR regarding confidentiality.Ability to maintain unit files through electronic medical record.Ability to adhere to health and safety standards.Ability to stay awake during working shift.Basic knowledge of individual’s rights.Ability to demonstrate initiative.Ability to travel as necessary.Ability to function and perform well in stressful environments and manage work related stress to ensure safety of those in the program.Ability to pass a drug screen when given to include but not limited to pre-employment, random, post-accident, suspicion, etc.Ability to function within professional boundaries with individuals and others.Ability to adapt to conditions which may vary considerably.Ability to relay coping skills, positive attitude skills and self-esteem.Ability to facilitate educational groups to individuals in the program.Ability to establish effective working relationships with other staff, Program Director and all levels of organizational staff.ESSENTIAL TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:Complete initial new hire training.Complete required on the job training (OJT) training by the department.Attend annual training as required.Obtain proper certifications needed to perform job duties.Complete annual training as required by the Alabama Administrative Code, CMS, and all other applicable regulating and contractual entities.Complete First Aid/CPR upon hire and prior to working alone with clients; and continuously thereafter maintaining current certification.WORK ENVIORNMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSPhysical ability to work assigned shift. May require periodic weekend/evening/holiday work with occasional overtime to meet the organizations’ needs.Must be able to travel to system facilities and/or other locations/outings with exposure to changing weather conditions.Work location is primarily in a temperature-controlled setting with minimal periods of sitting at a desk with associated repetitive motions. Must understand and practice good ergonomic movements to avoid injuries.Physical ability to correctly lift and/or moves up to seventy five (75) pounds on an infrequent basis.Required to talk to or hear staff, clients, and/or others.Required to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, kneel, and/or reach frequently.Employee may be exposed to one or more of the following: disagreeable odors, chemicals such as disinfectants, cleansers, soaps, etc; latex, plastic and other materials used for personal protective equipment; noise and distractions; unpleasant sights; unpredictable behaviors; contagious diseases; and/or wet floors.The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
