Job summary

Perimeter Healthcare is hiring a Mental Health Technician (MHT) for Full-Time roles at Perimeter Behavioral Hospital of Dallas in Garland, TX. The MHT will work with patients in an inpatient setting, supporting safety and recovery alongside the treatment team.

Qualifications include a High school diploma or GED with related experience, or Military Corpsman experience, or a relevant degree/CNA with MH exposure. Shifts include day/night and rotating weekends; benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 1 year direct care in behavioral health
• Military Corpsman experience acceptable for consideration
• Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or related field with MH exposure
• CNA with behavioral health patient care experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and supervision during each shift
• Obtain vital signs and observe changes in behavior or condition
• Document patient observations and safety rounds accurately
• Assist with admissions, orientation, and discharge processes
• Support daily activities and encourage healthy coping and life skills
• Use verbal de-escalation techniques during crises
• Escort patients to activities, appointments, and treatment areas
• Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment
• Communicate patient concerns to the nursing team promptly
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team for individualized care

We are currently seeking Full‑Time Mental Health Technicians (MHTs) to join our team. We have day and night shift opportunities available for compassionate, dependable individuals who are passionate about behavioral healthcare and making a positive impact in the lives of others.

Position Summary

As a Mental Health Technician, you will work directly with patients in our inpatient behavioral health hospital, providing support, encouragement, and supervision while helping maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment. You will work alongside nurses, therapists, physicians, and other members of the treatment team to promote patient safety, recovery, and overall well‑being.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and supervision throughout each shift.
• Obtain vital signs and observe patients for changes in behavior or condition.
• Conduct routine safety rounds and accurately document patient observations.
• Assist with admissions, patient orientation, and discharge processes.
• Support patients with daily activities while encouraging healthy coping and life skills.
• Utilize verbal de‑escalation techniques to assist patients experiencing emotional or behavioral crises.
• Escort patients to activities, appointments, and treatment areas as needed.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic treatment environment.
• Communicate patient concerns and behavioral changes promptly to the nursing team.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary treatment team to support individualized patient care.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED and at least one (1) year of direct care experience working with behavioral health or psychiatric patients.
• One (1) year of military Corpsman experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a related behavioral health field with experience working with mental health patients.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with previous behavioral health or psychiatric patient care experience.

Additional Requirements

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification.
• Ability to obtain Handle With Care certification during orientation.
• Ability to work assigned 12‑hour shifts, including rotating weekends.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain calm and professional in fast‑paced situations.
