Job summary

Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, OH is seeking a Behavioral Health Technician to provide basic supportive and trauma-informed care under the supervision of a registered nurse or clinical supervisor.

The 0.8 FTE position (32 hours/week) includes evening and weekend shifts with a starting rate of $21.71/hour plus $1.80 shift differential. A Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or related field is required, with a Master’s preferred.

Responsibilities

• Participates with the interdisciplinary team in specialized patient care and manages delegated assignments.

• Provides trauma-informed care, uses de-escalation, and maintains safety for staff and patients.
• Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to develop treatment plans.
• Acts as a resource to unit staff regarding diagnoses, behavior plans, relationship-based care, protective equipment, and crisis management.

FTE: 0.8, 32 hour/week

Rate: Starts at $21.71/hour with potential for higher pay based on relevant exp., plus $1.80 shift differential for evenings and $1.80 for weekends.

Essential Functions

• Participates with the interdisciplinary team in specialized patient care. Cares for patient assignment as delegated.
• Effectively establishes therapeutic relationships with patients and families on the unit including but not limited to effective communication and education.
• Provides trauma-informed care, utilizes positive reinforcement and operates within a therapeutic relationship, maintains staff and patient safety through de-escalation, limit setting, and physical interventions
• Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to develop treatment plans.
• Acts as a resource to unit staff regarding diagnoses, behavior plans, relationship based care, protective equipment, crisis management.

Education Requirement

• Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field, or equivalent experience, required
• Master’s Degree, preferred.

Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association, required.
• Therapeutic Crisis Intervention certification provided by the organization, required by conclusion of orientation.

Skills

Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

Experience

• One year of hospital experience in a mental health role within the past three years, required.
