The Mental Health Professional will provide group and individual counseling services to individuals receiving substance use disorder (SUD) treatment through the Helix Treatment and Pathways to Housing Program. This role involves facilitating daily therapy groups, developing relevant treatment materials, and supporting clients in their recovery journey. They will also provide crisis intervention and coaching to team members when needed. Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate and timely documentation and conducting one‑on‑one therapy sessions as appropriate. As part of an interdisciplinary treatment team, the Mental Health Professional will collaborate to ensure individuals receive comprehensive care, recovery resources, and the necessary support to achieve their treatment goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES

• Ideal candidates will have a passion for working with populations that are justice‑involved, are or previously have experienced homelessness, have co‑occurring disorders, and/or have a serious and persistent mental illness diagnosis and strive to close the gaps in mental health services for these populations.
• Facilitate and/or co‑facilitate up to 4 mental health groups a day for individuals in the Helix treatment and Pathways to Housing Program. Groups will not exceed 12 per session.
• Work with an interdisciplinary team to ensure member completion of program and achievement of individual goals.
• Build strong therapeutic relationships with group members to ensure wellness and attainment of individual goals.
• Provide one‑on‑one counseling to individuals who are enrolled in the Helix treatment program and/or Pathways to Housing Program. This will be provided based on capacity and need.
• Help develop and implement mental health group curriculum.
• Engage with clients from a strength‑based perspective that promotes client self‑determination and empowerment, develop trusting and therapeutic relationships for continuing engagement.
• Work under the direction of a designated clinical supervisor, if not currently independently licensed.
• Utilize best practices such as strengths based, person centered, trauma‑informed approaches while also providing culturally responsive services.
• Conduct Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) for new and existing participants.
• Maintain organized clinical documentation including diagnostic assessments, case notes, treatment plans, and other documentation in accordance with Minnesota Statute, while ensuring to meet deadlines.
• Oversee coordination of care for participants through collaboration and referral to internal Helix services and external service providers.
• Consistently attend all agency, program, and collaborative meetings in a timely manner and actively contribute to discussions and initiatives.
• Actively assist in creating and maintaining an employee‑centered culture.
• Uphold a high standard of professionalism, in accordance with Helix policies and standards, when engaging with the community and collaborating with Helix partners.
• Facilitate and provide client transportation to enhance access to essential community services.
• Demonstrate excellent communication skills and a strong willingness to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.

KNOWLEDGE

• Understanding of substance use disorders (SUDs), co‑occurring mental health conditions, and integrated treatment approaches.
• Proficiency in evidence‑based therapies for SUD treatment, such as Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Trauma‑Informed Care (TIC), and Medication‑Assisted Treatment (MAT).
• Familiarity with relapse prevention strategies, harm reduction models, and recovery‑oriented care.
• Strong knowledge of legal, ethical, and regulatory standards, including HIPAA and confidentiality regulations, state and federal guidelines for substance use treatment, mandatory reporting requirements.
• Knowledge of overdose prevention and response, including Naloxone (Narcan) administration.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or behavioral health is required.
• Dual LADC licensure is preferred along with Mental Health Professional licensure per Minnesota and Rule 29 regulations as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC), or Licensed Psychologist (LP), or
• 1–3 years of experience in behavioral health, mental health, or substance use disorder (SUD) treatment.
• Experience providing individual and group therapy in a clinical or community‑based setting.
• Familiarity with evidence‑based practices for SUD and co‑occurring mental health disorders.
• Experience working within a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement treatment plans.
• Previous experience with crisis intervention, de‑escalation, and relapse prevention strategies is preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance for travel between sites and other business‑related destinations.
• Must be able to pass a NetStudy 2.0 background check.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Lifting: Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25‑50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Bending & Stooping: Frequent bending, kneeling, and stooping may be required to access materials, equipment, or perform job‑related tasks.
• Sitting: Prolonged periods of sitting may be necessary, depending on the nature of work.
• Walking & Standing: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including navigating various work environments.
• Reaching & Stretching: Occasional reaching overhead or in awkward positions to retrieve or handle materials.
• General Mobility: Adequate physical ability to move freely within the workspace and perform assigned duties safely and efficiently.
