POSITION: Mental Health Professional

SCHEDULE: Part-time (20 hours per week)

FACILITY: Western NM Correctional Facility North

LOCATION: Grants, NM

POSITION SUMMARY

The Mental Health Professional is a member of the multi‑disciplinary treatment team and provides clinically appropriate services under the clinical direction of the Associate Director, Mental Health Programs. The Mental Health Professional will provide mental health screenings and assessments, clinical watches, treatment groups and individual sessions, as well as other clinically related activities.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Provide clinical services, including screening, assessment, treatment planning and crisis intervention.
  2. Perform individual and group therapeutic counseling.
  3. Perform administrative consultations for specialized social services as determined by the specific needs of the Institution.
  4. Interview inmates to obtain information concerning medical history, mental health history, or other pertinent information.
  5. Observe inmates to detect indications of abnormal behavior.
  6. Review results of tests, treatment plans and treatment cases with the behavioral health team to evaluate client needs and implement treatment.
  7. Coordinate psychiatry services, including tracking and triaging patients’ requests or staff referrals for psychotropic meds, and administering psychiatry visits.
  8. Plan and administer therapeutic treatment such as counseling, behavior modification and psychosocial education to assist inmates in managing their mental disorders and other interpersonal or environmental problems.
  9. Discuss progress toward treatment goals with inmates and ensure that the treatment plan is completed in a timely manner and adhered to as a barometer for treatment.
  10. Consult with behavioral health team regarding treatment plan and amend as described.
  11. Assist in planning and implementing the goals and objectives of programs and projects; may direct special projects as requested.
  12. Provide effective clinical supervision, perform consultation and teach others within a multi‑disciplinary treatment team.
  13. Prepare necessary documentation, records and reports.
  14. Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings.
  15. Provide documentation in accordance with unit policies, procedures and facility policies when recommended and/or indicated.
  16. Participate in mandatory and elective educational activities, orientation of new staff, and inmate orientation.
  17. Attend weekly staff meetings and follow all team/unit protocols.
  18. Adhere to safety and security policies and participate in disaster drills.
  19. Follow security regulations and policies, with consideration of clinical factors.
  20. Complete case management responsibilities as required.
  21. Complete chart reviews as required.
  22. Engage in internal audit preparation and review process as directed by the Associate Director, Mental Health Programs.
  23. Recommend or offer input to multi‑disciplinary team for transfers to alternate levels of care, and/or grade changes when requested.
  24. Participate in all mental health watches and log entries as directed.
  25. Respect dignity and confidentiality of patients.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • LICENSING: Fully licensed, temporary license or associate license in New Mexico as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
  • CERTIFICATION: Current CPR certification.
  • EDUCATION: Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Counseling.
  • PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: At least two (2) years prior clinical experience working with forensic clients; familiarity with relevant research literature, clinical assessments, procedures and methods; ability to assess treatment goals and write goal‑directed, individualized treatment plans; ability to monitor and document individual behavior patterns and modify treatment plans; familiarity with diagnostic nomenclature outlined in the most recent Diagnostic and Statistical Manual.
