Job Summary & Qualifications

The Mental Health Professional II facilitates high‑quality, patient‑centered care by providing supervised mental health services to patients and their families. The role performs assessments, psycho‑education, process groups, treatment planning, discharge planning and therapeutic counseling support through evidence‑based interventions in individual, family, and group therapy. This role primarily supports Methodist's 74‑bed secure unit and outpatient clinical patients at Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital location.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct individual, group and family psychoeducational and process groups.
  • Develop treatment plans and attend treatment planning meetings and reviews on an ongoing basis.
  • Assess environment and patient’s safety status and report/respond to actual and potential safety issues or changes in the patient's condition.
  • Identify risk factors, screening criteria and interventions for patients with special precautions (e.g., suicide, homicide, falls, elopement). Complete assessments, group notes and all other documentation promptly and in compliance with requirements, as appropriate to scope.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to assess and coordinate patient’s discharge planning needs and readiness for discharge.
  • Conduct post‑discharge follow‑up as indicated.
  • Evaluate re‑admissions for gaps in discharge planning processes.
  • Formulate a plan and implement new strategies.
  • Develop and maintain a community resource guide including access to public assistance/alternatives.
  • Facilitate and participate in Community Education, Activities and Support Groups, as appropriate to scope.
  • Contribute to ensuring a safe, structured milieu with evidence‑based treatment modalities/resources.
  • Identify cultural considerations, gender identity and preferred language for patients and family.
  • Demonstrate appropriate application of age/developmental stage specific standards, policies and procedures, and guidelines in assessing and treating patients to ensure patient safety.
  • Maintain active and timely communication with patients, families, multidisciplinary team and continuum of care providers.
  • Maintain professionalism and use good communication skills in interacting with peers, staff, patients, families and in resolving conflicts.
  • Demonstrate understanding of and ability to maintain clear professional boundaries with peers, patients and families.
  • Understand state commitment processes, abuse reporting requirements, duty to warn and guardianship processes.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and role in hospital codes.
  • Serve as an educational resource to patients, families, interdisciplinary team members, payer representatives, and other parties as appropriate regarding behavioral services.
  • Review, coach, and assist with training of new staff/interns as assigned within approved practice and program guidelines.
  • Participate in developing department goals/objectives and clinical programming. Perform utilization review as assigned.
  • Assist with Process and Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Practice and adhere to the “Code of Conduct” and “Mission and Value Statement.”
Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Crisis Prevention Intervention certifications required within 30 days.
  • Experience in mental health or related field preferred.
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Family Therapist (LFT) preferred.
