Job summary

Harborview Medical Center, part of UW Medicine, seeks a Mental Health Practitioner for per-diem day shifts. This temporary role involves initial screenings, evaluations and delivering case management and counseling services to an assigned caseload.

You will join a multidisciplinary team focused on recovery, housing assistance, and preventing crisis care where possible at Harborview’s Mental Health and Addiction Services.

Qualifications

• Master's in behavioral sciences or Bachelor's in nursing/behavioral science with 3 years direct mental health care experience.
• Licensed in WA as Independent Clinical Social Worker, Psychologist or Mental Health Counselor.
• Equivalent education/experience may substitute for minimum qualifications where allowed by law.

Responsibilities

• Provide initial screenings and psychiatric diagnostic evaluations for new clients.
• Provide mental health case management and counseling/therapy for assigned caseload.
• Work in a multidisciplinary treatment team with patients and social networks to support recovery.
• Assess patient needs and determine intervention plans.
• Assist clients in obtaining housing and funding to prevent crisis service use.
• Facilitate diversion from involuntary psychiatric hospitalization when appropriate.
• Participate in case reviews and document patient contact in records.
• Develop and implement patient care plans and engage in triage services.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

• Promote community stability by securing housing, benefits and culturally relevant treatment to meet the needs of those served
• Assist clients in developing meaningful and productive life roles

Primary Job Responsibilities

• Provide initial screenings and psychiatric diagnostic evaluations for new clients seeking services
• Provide mental health case management and counseling/ therapy services for an assigned caseload of clients
• As part of a multidisciplinary treatment teamwork with patients and their social networks to assist in their recovery from mental illness
• Assess patient needs and determine interventions
• May assist clients obtain housing and funding as necessary to prevent inappropriate use of crisis services
• Facilitate diversion from voluntary and involuntary psychiatric hospitalization when clinically appropriate
• Participate in case reviews
• Document patient contact in the medical record
• Develop and implement patient care plans
• Engage in triage services

Requirements

• A Master’s Degree in behavioral sciences, such as psychology, psychiatric nursing, occupational therapy, vocational or educational counseling, or social work OR Bachelor’s Degree in nursing or a behavioral science AND three years’ of experience in the direct delivery of professional mental health care.
• Licensed by the State of Washington as an Independent Clinical Social Worker, Psychologist or Mental Health Counselor.
• Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
