Job summary

Parkland Health is seeking a Mental Health Services professional to help develop and implement care plans for jail patients. You will identify mental health needs, coordinate with families and community agencies for follow-up after release, and work with multiple departments to ensure timely services.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or related field, and CPR certification within 90 days of hire.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
  • Experience: None.
  • Must have Heartsaver CPR within 90 days of hire from AHA/ARC/Military Training Network.
  • Must communicate effectively with diverse patient populations and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Interview inmates to identify and monitor mental health needs.
  • Ensure inmates receive timely services from the correct mental health clinician(s).
  • Serve as liaison with classification, medical, security and other departments.
  • Contact families and outside agencies for treatment or discharge planning.
  • Conduct didactic, psychoeducational and/or counseling with offenders.
  • Identify ways to improve work processes and patient satisfaction.
  • Stay current on developments in mental health and accrediting requirements.
  • Maintain knowledge of rules and guidelines affecting jail health services.

Primary Purpose

Minimum Specifications
Education
  • Must have a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
Experience
  • None.
Equivalent Education And/or Experience
  • None.
Certification/Registration/Licensure
  • Must have a current Heartsaver CPR course completion card within 90 days of hire and/or placement in job from one of the following:
  • American Heart Association.
  • American Red Cross Rescuer.
  • Military Training Network.
Skills Or Special Abilities
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with a diverse population of patients, medical and nursing staff, and management, both orally and in writing.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of PCs, word processing and database software.
  • Must be able to demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behaviors.

  • Conducts didactic, psycho educational and/or supervised group and individual counseling with offenders in a designated facility, area or program.
  • Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction, makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitoring results as appropriate..
  • Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements and trends in mental health by attending seminars or workshops, reading professional journals and/or actively participating in professional organizations, and integrates this knowledge as appropriate into the position.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the mental/jail health area. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.
