Job summary

NaphCare is hiring an experienced Mental Health Director to lead the Mobile County Metro Jail's mental health services in Mobile, Alabama. This role blends clinical expertise with facility leadership to provide high-quality behavioral healthcare.

Independent Alabama licensure (LICSW, LPC, LMFT or equivalent) with a Master’s in counseling, social work, or psychology is required, plus a minimum of three years’ clinical experience and leadership experience in a healthcare setting.

Qualifications

• Master's prepared degree in counseling, social work, psychology or related field.
• Active, unrestricted clinical license in Alabama (LICSW, LPC, LMFT or equivalent).
• Active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association).
• Minimum 3 years clinical experience in mental health or acute care.
• Leadership/management experience; correctional health care preferred.
• Knowledge of mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders.
• Ability to pass background check and drug screening.

Overview

NaphCare is hiring an experienced Mental Health Director to lead our mental health services at the Mobile County Metro Jail in Mobile, Alabama.

This is an excellent opportunity for an independently licensed mental health professional who is ready to combine clinical expertise with leadership in a unique healthcare environment. As the Mental Health Director, you will provide clinical and operational leadership for the facility's mental health program while supporting a multidisciplinary team dedicated to providing high-quality behavioral healthcare.

In this role, you will oversee mental health services, provide clinical guidance and support to staff, collaborate closely with medical and correctional professionals, and help ensure patients receive timely, coordinated care. You'll have the opportunity to make a direct impact on a diverse patient population with complex mental health and behavioral healthcare needs while helping lead and strengthen the facility's mental health program.

Independent Alabama clinical licensure is required for this position (LICSW, LPC, LMFT, or other qualifying independent behavioral health license).

Responsibilities

The Mental Health Director is responsible for managing and overseeing the mental health programs for the facility and ensuring patients in residence receive quality care that protects their rights, dignity and health. Duties and responsibilities may include and are not limited to:

• Developing and implementing mental health programs and services
• Coordinating, leading and participating in educational and training activities related to mental health care for patients
• Performing and documenting patient mental health evaluations, maintaining accurate and timely clinical records, progress notes, and other required documentation
• Facilitating patient treatments to include admission and discharge from the mental health unit, housing change requests, seclusion, suicide precautions, close observation, and observation level changes
• Demonstrate knowledge of DSM-V criteria
• Working closely with other professionals, such as psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and correctional staff, to ensure effective and coordinated care
• Managing mental health staff, including training and development, recruiting, hiring, and onboarding
• Developing and managing program budgets; utilizing resources efficiently
• Responding to and managing mental health crises, providing immediate support and stabilization
• Monitoring compliance with site-specific and company policies and procedures, taking appropriate corrective action, and ensuring compliance with ACA, NCCHC standards

Qualifications

• Master's prepared degree in counseling, social work, psychology or related field
• Must hold an active, unrestricted, independent clinical license in the State of Alabama, such as LICSW, LPC, LMFT, or other qualifying independent behavioral health license
• Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association required)
• A minimum of 3 years' clinical experience in a mental health care or acute care setting
• Previous leadership or management experience required; correctional healthcare leadership experience preferred
• Must have knowledge and experience in the identification and treatment of mental health and co-occurring substance abuse disorders, discharge planning, principles of social work, basic principles of individual and group behavior, and a working knowledge of psychotropic medications
• Correctional mental health professionals must be able to remain calm under pressure while assess patients' situations, underlying causes of their behavior and be able to develop interventions and treatment plans
• Effective communications skills are required for building patient rapport and relaying information and treatment plan with other medical and mental health care professionals
• Strong organizational skills are needed to keep track of patient treatment plans and progress notes
• Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
• Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening

Physical Capabilities

Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
