Job description

Position Overview

We are hiring for a Mental Health Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide comprehensive support for individuals with intellectual, developmental disabilities, and mental health or substance use challenges. The DSP will work in community and residential settings, assisting clients with their personal goals, daily living tasks, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist individuals in identifying needs and communicating requests for services and supports.
  • Implement services to achieve goals outlined in each person’s Centered Plan.
  • Support healthy personal and social habits, promote independence, and provide consistent reinforcement during learning activities.
  • Help clients with daily living tasks such as bathing, grooming, toileting, dressing, eating, and household chores including laundry and cleaning.
  • Prepare meals, assist with food preparation, and supervise dietary needs.
  • Assist with transportation to appointments, day programs, work sites, and community activities, ensuring safety and support during travel.
  • Provide crisis response during working hours and on-call, following effective crisis management protocols.
  • Maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive personal health information.
  • Keep accurate documentation of care, including incident reports, program data logs, and health and wellness monitoring.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, habilitation specialists, behavior analysts, and other clinical staff for program development and enhancement.
  • Serve as a role model, advocate, teacher, mentor, and companion for clients.
  • Assist with medication administration, monitor dosages, and record in medical charts under authorized supervision.
  • Ensure timely completion of shift change duties and coverage documentation.
  • Participate in mandatory house, clinical, and management team meetings.
  • Assist with person‑centered plan outcomes, encouraging choice and self‑determination.
  • Collect and provide data on client progress and program effectiveness.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required; at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid driver’s license; vehicle insurance required if transportation duties are assigned.
  • Preferred: One year of college education + experience with mental health or developmental disabilities; or three years of experience with an associate’s degree; or five years of experience with a high school diploma.
  • Experience in supporting individuals with behavioral challenges and crisis management is preferred.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Hourly pay: $18.00.
