Job description

The Mental Health Clinician provides direct clinical services to individuals receiving behavioral health treatment services. This position is responsible for conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, facilitating individual and group therapy, maintaining clinical documentation, and supporting client progress throughout treatment.

The Mental Health Clinician works collaboratively with multidisciplinary team members to deliver high-quality, evidence‑based care that supports client recovery, emotional wellness, and treatment goals. This position maintains compliance with applicable licensing requirements, regulatory standards, organizational policies, and professional ethics while promoting a safe, supportive, and therapeutic treatment environment.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct clinical assessments and develop individualized treatment plans based on client needs and treatment goals.
  • Provide evidence‑based individual therapy, group therapy, psychoeducation, family support, and collateral interventions.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and clinically appropriate documentation in accordance with regulatory, organizational, and billing requirements.
  • Participate in clinical supervision, staff meetings, training activities, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings, discharge planning, and case staffing meetings.
  • Monitor client progress and modify treatment interventions as clinically indicated.
  • Develop discharge recommendations and assist with transition planning to support ongoing recovery and continuity of care.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support for clients experiencing emotional, behavioral, or mental health concerns while participating in risk management and incident response activities as needed.
  • Maintain effective communication with referral sources, outside providers, and community agencies when appropriate.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Position Requirements and Expectations
  • Demonstrate strong clinical judgment and the ability to provide ethical, professional, and client‑centered care.
  • Utilize evidence‑based and trauma‑informed practices to support client recovery and emotional wellness.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and clinically appropriate documentation.
  • Ability to establish therapeutic rapport and maintain professional boundaries with clients and families.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary treatment team members and community providers.
  • Working knowledge of DSM‑5 diagnostic criteria and ASAM levels of care.
  • Knowledge of Alaska Medicaid documentation requirements and behavioral health regulations.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Ability to successfully pass all required state and federal background screenings.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience working in behavioral health, residential treatment, inpatient treatment, outpatient treatment, or substance use disorder treatment settings preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing mental health, substance use, or co‑occurring disorders preferred.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary treatment teams preferred.
  • Experience with Alaska Medicaid, behavioral health regulations, and accreditation standards preferred.
