Job summary

White Earth Nation seeks a Mental Health ARMHS Practitioner to deliver individual rehabilitative services for adults with mental illness. Duties include instruction, support, and skill coaching to promote psychiatric stability and independent living in the community.

Position Summary:
This position will provide individual mental health rehabilitative services to clients with a mental illness, in the form of instruction, support, and skill coaching. The goals of the services are to increase psychiatric stability, promote social competencies, facilitate personal and emotional adjustment, and maintain independent living in the community.
The ARMHS mental health practitioner will provide culturally responsive mental health services and instruct, assist, and support a client in areas such as medication education and monitoring, basic social and living skills, mental illness symptom management, household management, and employment-related or community-living transitions.
Positions outcomes:

• Provide community-based rehabilitative services to adult clients (ages 18+) with mental illness who qualify for rehabilitate services in person and via telehealth.
• Engage with clients from an empowerment, strength-based perspective and promote client self-determination and develop trusting, therapeutic relationships with clients.
• Work under the direction of a designated clinical supervisor;
• Complete Functional Assessments under supervision of a clinical supervisor;
• Implement rehabilitative mental health services, including but not limited to: basic living skills, social skills, and community intervention services;
  Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge of:
• demographics, culture, customs and geography of the White Earth Reservation;
• willingness to learn what the client’s culture believes about family, health, mental health, cultural values, and patterns of family dysfunction, disease incidence, and prevalence;
• Skilled in:
• providing culturally appropriate services for the American Indian population;
• teaching rehabilitation interventions with individuals and in group settings;
• Ability to:
• effectively exchange information, perception, instruction, and preferences about the client’s presenting problem or condition and related history;
• provide necessary self-care;
  Qualifications:
• Has completed at least 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in behavioral sciences or related fields and:
• (1) has at least 2,000 hours of experience providing services to adults with:
• A mental illness or substance use disorder; or
• A traumatic brain injury or a developmental disability, and completes training on mental illness, recovery from mental illness, mental health de-escalation techniques, co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse, and psychotropic medications and side effects; or
• Is working in a day treatment program; or
• Has completed a practicum or internship that required direct interaction with adult clients and was focused on behavioral sciences; or
• Is in the process of completing a practicum or internship as part of a form undergraduate or graduate training program in social work, psychology, or counseling.
• A mental health practitioner is qualified through work experience alone if the person:
• (1) has at least 4,000 hours of experience in the delivery of services to adults with:
• (a) mental illness, substance use disorder, or emotional disturbance; or
• (b traumatic brain injury or developmental disabilities and completes training on mental illness, recovery from mental illness, mental health de-escalation techniques, co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse, and psychotropic medications and side effects.
• A mental health practitioner is qualified through work experience alone if the person has 2,000 hours of experience providing services to adults with:
  a) mental illness, substance use disorder, or emotional disturbance; or
  (b traumatic brain injury or developmental disabilities and completes training on mental illness, recovery from mental illness, mental health de-escalation techniques, co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse, and psychotropic medications and side effects, and:
  (1) receives treatment supervision of at least once per week until meeting the requirement clause of 4,000 hours.
• Has a master's or other graduate degree in behavioral sciences or related fields.
• Valid driver’s license and insurance for travel between sites and other business-related destinations required.
