Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Conducts medication assessments and crisis response, and provides ongoing medication management.
• Provides consultation and health education to staff, caregivers, and clients.
• Maintains documentation including service plans, progress notes, informed consent, and treatment reviews.
• Interprets diagnostic or laboratory tests such as EKGs and labs.
• Writes prescriptions for psychotropic medications as allowed by state/federal regulations.
• Provides medical services including history and physicals for opioid treatment program and follow-up visits.
• Monitors daily doses of Methadone/Buprenorphine (Suboxone/Subutex) for opioid use disorder.
• Provides outpatient detoxification and treatment services for opioid addiction.
• Meets with Mental Health and SUDP Counselors to coordinate treatment plans.
• Collaborates with consulting Psychiatrists to establish ongoing care for complex cases.
• Develops practice protocols based on published research.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Conducts medication assessments and crisis response to both new and existing clients. Develops individual service plans based upon assessment data and provides therapeutic interventions as necessary to include the provision of on-going medication management services.
• Provides consultation and health education to didgwalic Wellness Center staff, caregivers, and clients as it is relative to the treatment and medication needs of the clients.
• Maintains documentation of services including patient service plans, progress notes, medication informed consent, treatment plan reviews, and all other required information with didgwalic Wellness Center, federal, and state compliance standards.
• Interprets diagnostic or laboratory tests such as electrocardiograms (EKGs), renal functioning tests, and medication serum levels.
• Writes prescriptions for psychotropic medications as state and federal regulations allow.
• Provides medical services including taking a history and physical examination of the patients for the opioid treatment program and performs appropriate follow-up visits.
• Accurately and efficiently monitors daily doses of Methadone/Buprenorphine (Suboxone/Subutex) or other medications appropriate for the treatment of opioid use disorder.
• Provides outpatient detoxification and treatment services to persons addicted to opioids.
• Meets regularly with Mental Health and SUDP Counselors to identify and coordinate optimum treatment plans for enrolled clients.
• Collaborates with consulting Psychiatrists as necessary to establish ongoing care of complex patient scenarios.
• Develops practice protocols for mental health problems based on review and evaluation of published research.
• Provides general health counseling services under the supervision of the Associate Medical Director and follows the progress of patients. Makes appropriate records of findings during examinations.
• Monitors organization-wide performance improvement activities as a member of the clinic medical team and participate in staff meetings and/or consultations as requested.
• Other duties as assigned by the Lead Medical Provider.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Knowledge of the etiology of serious mental illness, developmental, and substance abuse disorders and their treatment by a variety of appropriate therapeutic interventions including psychopharmacology, nursing practice and medical evaluation, and physical diseases and their treatment.
• Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
• Knowledge of community resources and networking techniques, and of psychiatric and medical emergency stabilization.
• Good empathy, as well as personal and ethical boundaries.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to balance competing priorities.
• Ability to work in a cross-culture environment, understands the social and cultural context of the patients at the didgwalic Wellness Center. Understands the role of trauma, historical, community, family, and personal experience in wellness and recovery.
• Understands and adheres to state (RCW, WAC) and federal confidentiality regulations (42 CFR part 2).
• Effective communication; written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution.
• Basic computer and software experience using MS Office products.

Education And Experience

• Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program required.
• Must be Licensed Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) in good standing with the state of Washington.
• 5 years of experience as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner preferred.
• Previous substance abuse treatment and/or primary care experience preferred.
