Job summary

Hilmar Cheese Company seeks a Membrane Utility Operator to support membrane testing and Protein Plant projects. You will work closely with a Product Coordinator to ensure testing accuracy, inventory reporting, and compliance with food safety standards.

The role requires lifting up to 60 lbs, 8-hour shifts (including weekends/holidays), and proficiency with MS Word, Excel and Outlook. Comfort with rotations across duties and participation in training is essential.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
• Skilled as a whey plant operator (level 3) for at least 1 year
• Understanding of membrane filtration system operations
• SAP experience
• 2 years of dairy manufacturing experience

Responsibilities

• Work closely with Product Coordinator – Protein Plant.
• Membrane testing; membrane ordering and shipping; bi-weekly and monthly usage reports.
• Represent production during plant experiments and R&D projects.
• Communicate issues to the production team.
• Rotate across responsibilities as needed.
• Assist with other operator functions as required.
• Participate in training and development programs.
• Coach and train teammates; buddy training.
• Prioritize food safety and sanitation per policies.
• Prioritize safety; report issues and follow up.

A Typical Day

The Membrane Utility Operator is primarily responsible for membrane testing and assisting Protein staff with plant projects.

Job Responsibilities

• Work closely with Product Coordinator – Protein Plant.
• Responsible for membrane testing and upkeep of associated program. Membrane testing responsibilities also include: Membrane ordering, shipping of used membranes, bi-weekly inventory reports, monthly and yearly membrane usage reports.
• Represents production department during plant experiments and R&D projects.
• Responsible for communicating issues related to the above responsibilities to the production team.
• Membrane Operator may be primarily assigned to one of the above listed responsibilities but is required to be flexible enough to work or rotate into any of the above areas.
• Membrane Operator may be called on to assist with other operator functions dependent upon background knowledge.
• Active participation and ownership in your training and development program and associated activities, classes and events, which will be held before, during, after shifts and during scheduled days off.
• Help coach and train teammates and participate in on the job, buddy training.
• Place high priority on food safety and sanitation by understanding and executing HCC’s food safety and sanitation policies and procedures. This includes communicating any food safety incident, observation, or opportunity to your leadership team or teammates as well as participating in food safety and sanitation root cause analysis and improvement activities when required.
• Prioritize safety above all other job duties by having a safety first approach at all times. This includes reporting any safety issues, observations, opportunities to your teams and follow up.

• English skills must be proficient to understand, read, write and speak English
• Must be able to work 8-hour variable shifts, including weekends and holidays, and overtime as needed.
• Ability to lift up to 60lbs
• Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
