LOCATION: Oakland, California

RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Head of Operations/Labor Relations, the Member Resource Center (MRC) Director is the primary staff leader responsible for innovating, developing, and administering the Union’s MRC. The goal is to reach thousands of union members, resource members, and leaders with tools, resources, education, and information to improve members’ lives. The MRC Director plans and directs the activities of the MRC and other delegated operational areas, supervising a team of skilled staff to provide high-quality advice, service, and a positive union experience for members contacting the MRC.

The primary responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the MRC and coordinating its activities with overall Union programs.
  • Interpreting contract language, investigating workplace issues, and bargaining legal contracts. Advising members on their rights and conditions via phone, in person, or in writing.
  • Leading, motivating, developing, and evaluating MRC staff.
  • Planning, organizing, prioritizing, and providing policy guidance for MRC work and projects.
  • Overseeing the development, testing, and scaling of the Union’s MRC Digital Learning and Business Intelligence platforms, using metrics and feedback to monitor effectiveness.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to deliver high-impact MRC programs.
  • Identifying opportunities to modernize the MRC to enhance member experience and increase adoption, maintaining high standards of service and consistency.
  • Developing and overseeing the MRC budget.
  • Building and sustaining a scalable, efficient, and cost-effective MRC system.
  • Providing reports and analysis to union stakeholders.
  • Implementing new communication tools to improve outreach.
  • Working with the Member Engagement/Staff Development Director on programs to develop member leadership.
  • Maintaining confidentiality, integrity, and discretion in managing information and resources.
  • Evaluating complex technical and operational issues, proposing effective solutions.
  • Managing large, complex projects to deliver high-impact results.
  • Establishing effective relationships with members and union leaders.
  • Managing priorities and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Formulating and implementing goals, policies, and procedures.
  • Representing the Union in meetings with clear, concise reports and correspondence.
  • Understanding and applying the organizing model to empower members and achieve workplace outcomes.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, 5+ years union experience, 3+ years leadership, 1+ year labor relations, program management skills, technological proficiency, teamwork ability, strong interpersonal skills, and commitment to justice.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Union Member Resource Center experience, additional labor relations experience, and innovative project implementation.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Willingness to work irregular hours, travel within Northern California, possess a valid California driver’s license, and maintain appropriate auto insurance.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Starting at $134,503.12 to $154,678.60, with comprehensive benefits including health coverage, life insurance, pension, 401(k), and paid leave.
