Modal is seeking strong engineers to build software loved by developers. You will enhance the SDK/CLI, create new primitives, and contribute to the evolving AI infrastructure layer that powers production-grade, low-latency deployments.

The role emphasizes developer ergonomics, async programming, and close collaboration with users. This is a remote role, with a requirement to be located in the United States.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience developing high-quality Python, JavaScript, or Go applications or libraries.
• Strong code-as-product sense focused on ergonomics and productivity.
• Understand async programming and concurrency pitfalls.
• High level of customer empathy and communication skills.
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotation and production incidents.
• Willingness to work in New York office in person.

About Us:
AI needs a new infrastructure layer. We're building it at Modal.

Every era of computing brought new workloads that previous infrastructure couldn't support: mainframes, databases, and the cloud. You May Be a Fit If:

• You have 5+ years of experience developing high-quality Python, JavaScript, or Go applications or libraries where the code is used or interacted with by other developers

• You have a strong code-as-product sense that manifests as a focus on developer ergonomics and productivity

• You understand async programming, concurrency management, and their pitfalls

• You have a high level of customer empathy, good communication skills, and an openness to working directly with our users to help solve their problems

• You're able to participate in our on-call rotation and respond to production incidents

• You're able to work in person in our New York office

Nice-to-Have:

• Experience building developer tools or SDKs

• Experience maintaining open-source software

• Good understanding of agentic development workflows

• Familiarity with modern data, ML, and AI tools and workflows
