Responsibilities

  • Set up and calibrate the melt shop equipment to ensure proper functioning for specific metal shapes and sizes.
  • Operate and monitor the melt shop machinery, adjusting settings as required to meet product specifications.
  • Load raw materials into the mill and ensure accurate input.
  • Monitor the quality of the billet products, ensuring it meets the required standards for thickness, shape, and surface finish.
  • Perform regular inspections of products during production to detect defects, report issues, and make necessary adjustments.
  • Document production processes and quality control data for tracking and reporting purposes.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot any mechanical or operational issues with the melt shop machinery.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including cleaning, lubrication, and parts replacement.
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams for more complex repairs or adjustments.
  • Ensure that all safety protocols and industry regulations are followed at all times while operating the machinery.
  • Participate in safety training and keep work areas clean and organized to avoid accidents.
  • Monitor for potential hazards, report unsafe conditions, and make suggestions for process improvements.
  • Maintain steady production flow, adjusting machine settings and operating procedures as necessary to improve productivity and reduce downtime.
  • Work with supervisors to optimize processes and minimize material waste.
  • Keep accurate records of production data, maintenance schedules, and machine performance.
  • Report any abnormalities or issues to supervisors and assist in implementing corrective actions.

Job description

SUMMARY:

The Melt Shop Utility Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining the rolling mill machinery used to shape and form metal products. This position ensures that the mill operates efficiently, produces quality products, and adheres to safety standards. The Mill Operator will also monitor the performance of the equipment, troubleshoot issues, and perform routine maintenance to ensure continuous production with minimal downtime.

Salary: $15.50 base pay, ranging from $24-30 with production incentive
