Job summary

EXP Global Inc. in the Tampa area is seeking a MEI Inspector to review stormwater pipe inspections, document data for reports, and ensure contractor compliance with contracts on highway and bridge projects.

The role requires CTQP certifications (Concrete Field, Asphalt, Earthwork, Pile Driving, Drilled Shaft) and IMSA Traffic Signal Inspector Level I, with on-site duties and potential after-hours work as dictated by contracts.

Qualifications

• FDOT-related certifications and/or PE/Intern status preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specs, and contract documents.
• Experience inspecting soils, concrete, steel, and masonry for road/bridge projects.

Responsibilities

• Review and inspect stormwater pipe inspection videos and document data for reports.
• Prepare on-site inspection reports and monitor contractor compliance with contracts.
• Review construction documents to minimize issues and extra work orders.
• Take precise measurements of contractor work for accurate payments.
• Assist with contract submissions, critical path schedules, and RFIs.
• Coordinate staffing and attend progress meetings; supervise junior inspector.
• Monitor and inspect Work Zone Traffic Control per contract documents.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent plus 5 years construction inspection experience

Engineer Intern with Civil Engineering degree

What a day at EXP has in store for you

• Review and examine stormwater pipe inspection videos, analyze and record data for reports, and perform quality assurance reviews.
• Document all activities on site during duration of the contract and prepare inspection reports.
• Oversee, document, review, and assess contractor’s compliance with contractual requirements.
• Review construction documents and drawings to minimize issues and to reduce the potential for extra work orders during construction.
• Take accurate and detailed measurements of all work performed by the contractor to ensure accurate payments.
• Assist the Project Administrator with the review of contract submissions (critical path schedules, RFI’s etc.)
• Assist the project Administrator with staff scheduling/coordination.
• Attend progress meeting and provide feedback on ongoing construction and issues.
• Supervision of Junior inspector.
• Inspection and testing of soils, concrete, steel and masonry materials for road and bridge projects. Experience with FDOT construction and specifications desired.
• Reading and interpreting drawings and specifications.
• Observing general job safety practices.
• Monitoring and inspecting the Work Zone Traffic Control in accordance with contract documents.
• The ability to work as a team a plus.
• Possibility of weekend and evening work as dictated by contract.

What your experience looks like

• Experience as a Senior Inspector on Florida Department of Transportation projects in the Tampa, FL area.
• High school graduate or equivalent plus two (5) years’ experience in construction inspection, one (2) year of which shall have been in bridge and/or roadway construction inspection, or an Engineer Intern with a Civil Engineering degree (requires certificate) having the ability to earn the required qualifications and certifications within one year, plus demonstrated knowledge in the following:
• CTQP Concrete Field Inspector Level I
• CTQP Asphalt Roadway Level I
• CTQP Earthwork Construction Inspection Level I
• CTQP Pile Driving Inspection
• CTQP Drilled Shaft Inspection (required for inspection of all drilled shafts including miscellaneous structures such as sign structures, lighting structures, and traffic signal structures)
• IMSA Traffic Signal Inspector Level I

• Contract Administration (required for managing FDOT contracts)
