Job summary

ACT Power Services seeks a High Voltage/Medium Voltage (HV/MV) Technician in Central TX for a full-time role. You will install, maintain, test, and repair HV/MV equipment, typically 5kV–35kV+, ensuring safe, reliable solar power plant operations. Travel approx. 40% with competitive pay.

You’ll bring 3–5 years HV/MV experience, a HS diploma or GED, and strong knowledge of electrical theory and protective relaying. OSHA 30/NFPA 70E preferred.

Qualifications

• HV/MV systems experience and knowledge of electrical theory and protective relaying.
• Proficient with electrical test equipment (Multimeters, Megger, Doble, HiPot, etc.).
• Minimum 3–5 years of relevant HV/MV experience; valid driver’s license and travel readiness.
• Preferred certifications: OSHA 30, NFPA 70E; NETA or equivalent is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair HV/MV electrical systems (typically 5kV–35kV+).
• Test transformers, switchgear, breakers, relays, and protective devices.
• Perform cable splicing and terminations per industry standards.
• Troubleshoot faults and perform root-cause analysis; document results.
• Support upgrades, outages, and emergency repairs; ensure safety compliance.

ACT Power Services, a national Solar Power Operations & Maintenance Provider, is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious High Voltage/Medium Voltage (HV/MV) Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical systems, with expertise in the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of HV/MV electrical equipment and systems. This is a hands-on role that plays a critical part in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of a solar power plant’s infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of HV/MV electrical systems (typically 5kV - 35kV and above).
• Conduct electrical testing of transformers, switchgear, breakers, relays, and protective devices.
• Perform cable splicing and terminations in accordance with industry standards.
• Troubleshoot electrical faults and perform root cause analysis.
• Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, inspections, and test results.
• Assist in energizing new or repaired systems following strict safety protocols.
• Comply with all OSHA, NEC, NFPA 70E, and company safety standards.
• Support system upgrades, outages, and emergency repairs as needed.
• Collaborate with engineers and project managers to ensure projects meet specifications and timelines.

Requirements

Required

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience working with HV/MV systems.
• Knowledge of electrical theory, protective relaying, and power system operations.
• Proficiency in using electrical test equipment (e.g., Multimeters, Megger, Doble, HiPot, TTR, etc.).
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites.

Preferred

• Technical certificate or associate degree in Electrical Technology or related field.
• OSHA 30 certification and NFPA 70E training.
• NETA or equivalent testing certification is a plus.
• Experience with substation and transmission system maintenance.
• Certificate for medium voltage cable terminations and splices.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Comfortable working in confined spaces, heights, and around energized equipment.
• Must be able to wear appropriate PPE including arc flash suits.
