Job summary

The Medication Safety & Quality Officer at Saint Francis Healthcare System serves as the health system's designated pharmacist for medication safety, medication-use quality improvement, and regulatory readiness. Qualifications

• PharmD degree from ACPE-accredited school required.

JOB SUMMARY

The Medication Safety & Quality Officer serves as the health system's designated pharmacist for medication safety, medication-use quality improvement, and regulatory readiness. The position is responsible for developing, implementing, coordinating, and sustaining a comprehensive medication safety program designed to reduce preventable medication-related harm across all care settings.

The Medication Safety & Quality Officer provides oversight for medication safety initiatives spanning the entire medication-use process, including medication selection, procurement, storage, prescribing, transcribing, dispensing, administration, monitoring, and reporting. The position serves as the pharmacy representative for organizational patient safety activities and collaborates closely with Quality, Risk Management, Nursing, Medical Staff, Information Technology, and Operations leadership to advance a culture of safety and continuous quality improvement.

The Medication Safety & Quality Officer functions as the organizational subject matter expert for medication safety and serves as chair or coordinator of medication safety governance activities throughout the organization. This position reflects recommendations outlined by the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) regarding the role and scope of a dedicated Medication Safety Officer.

The role provides focused oversight across high-risk and specialty medication-use environments, including neonatal and pediatric care, women's services, oncology and infusion services, critical care, emergency services, perioperative and procedural areas, specialty pharmacy, ambulatory settings, and transitions of care

JOB DETAILS AND REQUIREMENTS

Time Type: Full Time, 80 hours per two-week pay period, with benefits

Typical Hours: Day Shift

Education:

• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an ACPE-accredited college or school of pharmacy- required

License/Credentials:

• Current pharmacist licensure in applicable state(s) of practice- required

Experience:

• Five (5) years of progressive hospital pharmacy experience- required
• Demonstrated experience in medication safety, quality improvement, clinical pharmacy, pharmacy leadership, or pharmacy informatics- required
• Experience participating in medication event review and performance improvement activities- required
• Demonstrated experience using an electronic event-reporting system to review, investigate, trend, and close medication-related events- required
