Job description

Overview

Provides compassionate resident care in a facility setting, ensuring medications are dispensed accurately and timely. Supports residents with daily activities, social engagement, and safety, while delivering quality customer service and preserving residents' dignity.

Responsibilities
  • Sets up medications and passes them to residents following established policies and procedures.
  • Performs narcotic counts at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Orders medications from the pharmacy following community policies.
  • Checks MARs for errors according to community policy.
  • Communicates with residents' families to arrange medication delivery as needed.
  • Assists with the management of medications, including pulling expired or discontinued meds and preparing for destruction.
  • Administers treatments, takes vital signs, and weighs residents.
  • Documents changes and unusual occurrences in charts; records medical changes and orders on MAR per physician orders.
  • Ensures lab work, faxes, physician orders, and medication orders are filed per policies.
  • Schedules doctor appointments as needed and admits new residents per policy.
  • Assists residents with showers, grooming, dressing, and toileting; supports activities of daily living as described in care plans.
  • Assists with basic cleaning and maintenance as needed; cleans up after incidents promptly while preserving resident dignity.
  • Assists residents who have fallen to provide safety and compassion; escorts residents to and from dining areas as needed.
  • Handles laundry pickup and transport, assists in serving meals and beverages, and takes meal orders as needed.
  • Responds to call lights with patience and compassion; follows up with appropriate personnel regarding concerns.
  • Makes rounds to ensure resident safety and provide assistance as needed.
  • Notifies Health Services Director, doctors, and families of changes in condition, incidents, or medications as needed.
  • Attends meetings, in-services, and training as required by Health Services Director or Executive Director.
  • Maintains confidentiality of residents’ information and protects residents’ rights.
  • Communicates with residents, families, visitors, and staff in a positive, professional manner.
  • Provides tours to potential residents and families to demonstrate how needs can be met in the community.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor to foster a positive, nurturing environment.
  • Ensures adequate daily meal-service coverage by coordinating with Culinary Services.This includes taking orders, providing refills, and assisting with dining room setup and cleanup between mealtimes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Managerial Breadth / Scope

May occasionally be assigned as shift or team leader as needed.

Education / Experience

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Certification in medication administration and CPR/First Aid as required by state regulations.

Working Environment / Physical Requirements

Moderate physical activity; ability to handle objects up to 50 pounds occasionally and 20 pounds frequently. Ability to stoop, bend, and reach. May lift residents with assistance over 100 pounds.
