Job summary

North Mississippi Health Services is seeking a Medical Technologist Lead to support the supervisor with scheduling, quality control, maintenance programs, and workflow organization in the pathology lab. This role also ensures accurate transport of lab supplies, equipment and specimens and requires adherence to all applicable laws and CAP/CLSI standards.

The position involves training, performance improvement efforts, teamwork, and ensuring compliant handling, labeling and reporting of results,

Qualifications

• Assist supervisor with scheduling, quality control, and maintenance programs.
• Coordinate workflow of phlebotomists in Specimen Processing.
• Lead MT in absence of supervisor or Lead MT.
• Ensure proper transport of lab supplies, equipment and specimens while following laws.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate workflow of phlebotomists in Specimen Processing area.
• Serve as Charge Medical Technologist in absence of supervisor or Lead MT.
• Assure accurate and efficient transportation of lab-related supplies, equipment and specimens.
• Follow laws and regulations in processing and transportation of laboratory specimens.
• Follow regulatory guidelines in handling/processing of laboratory specimens.
• Ensure proper patient identification and labeling of all specimens.
• Communicate effectively with NMHS staff, patients, their family members and customers.
• Use AIDET as applicable.
• Attend CARES training.
• Ensure proper service recovery for patients and caregivers.
• Answer telephone in a polite and efficient manner.
• Work as part of a team with all Pathology and NMHS employees.
• Assure department testing is reported accurately and timely.
• Assist with PI initiatives to improve department performance.
• Document instrument monthly maintenance and quality control.
• Assist with training of students and new employees.
• Participate in continuing education to maintain skills.
• Stay abreast of regulatory changes.
• Adhere to NMHS/NMMC policies/procedures/guidelines.
• Comply with Local/State/Federal policies.
• Adhere to CAP & CLSI standards.

JOB FUNCTIONS

• Coordinates work flow of phlebotomists in Specimen Processing area.
• Serves as Charge Medical Technologist (MT) in absence of supervisor or Lead MT. Distribution and Transportation:
• Assures accurate and efficient transportation of lab-related supplies, equipment and specimens.
• Follows all laws and regulations in the processing and transportation of laboratory specimens.
• Specimen Handling & Processing:
• Follows regulatory guidelines in handling/processing of laboratory specimens.
• Follows proper policy for accurate patient identification and labeling of all specimens.

Communication

• Effectively communicate with all NMHS staff, patients, their family members and customers.

Customer Service

• Uses AIDET as applicable.
• Attends CARES training.
• When necessary, assures proper service recovery is done for patients and/or caregivers.
• Answers telephone in an polite and efficient manner.
• Employee Relations:
• Works as part of a team with all Pathology and NMHS employees.

Reporting/Recordkeeping
