Primary Purpose

Responsible for basic specimen processing and testing to assist physicians in the diagnosis of patients.

Minimum Specifications
Education
  • Must have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience
  • None
Equivalent Education and/or Experience
Certification/Registration/Licensure
  • Must be certified by one of the following below or be certification eligible with certification obtained within 6 months of hire:
  • Medical Technologist (MT) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
  • Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) - National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA)
  • Medical Technologist (MT) - American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • Technologist, Blood Banking (BB) - ASCP
  • Technologist, Chemistry (C) - ASCP
  • Technologist, Hematology (H) - ASCP
  • Technologist, Microbiology (M) - ASCP
  • Technologist, Molecular Biology (MB) - ASCP
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to follow all laboratory procedures.
  • Working knowledge of laboratory techniques.
  • Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
  • Identify and address problems affecting test results.
  • Maintain accurate records, follow instructions, and communicate effectively with hospital personnel and medical staff.
  • Use laboratory and hospital computer systems effectively within three months of employment.
Responsibilities
  1. Receive specimens, assess specimen integrity, verify labeling and documentation, and enter data for billing.
  2. Perform specimen processing, reagent preparation, testing, and report results.
  3. Conduct quality control tasks, maintain documentation, and troubleshoot equipment.
  4. Assist in training and consulting with new employees, residents, and medical staff.
  5. Participate in the Pathology Quality Assurance program.
  6. Identify process improvements, make recommendations, and support organizational goals.
  7. Stay updated on developments in Pathology by attending seminars, reading journals, and applying new knowledge.
  8. Follow applicable rules, regulations, policies, and guidelines, ensuring compliance and reporting unethical behavior.
