Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager, the Medical Technologist performs routine, complex, or specialized bacteriological, hematological, chemical, immunological, serological, and immunoassay procedures on body fluids.

Responsibilities

• Process specimens, perform testing, and report results independently without supervision.
• Maintain required competencies in all assigned departments.
• Demonstrate accuracy for all testing performed.
• Observe patient safety, risk management, and infection control policies and procedures.
• Perform related quality control and required proficiency testing according to policy and procedure.
• Continue personal and professional growth to maintain competence.
• Identify and assist with opportunities for performance improvement activities on the unit and with other service areas.
• Demonstrate fiscal responsibility by managing time, reducing waste of supplies, and promoting cost‑effectiveness while maintaining patient safety and quality of care.
• Advocate for and protect the health, safety, and rights of patients.
• Interact with patients and colleagues with compassion and respect for all individuals.
• Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, business office, and medical records to ensure continuity of patient care.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science (MT/CLS) from an accredited institution.
• MT (ASCP) certification or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of Blood Bank clinical experience and sufficient experience to independently cover the department.
