Job summary

SGMC Health Careers is seeking a qualified Medical Technologist for the PM LAB at the Main Campus. This role performs analyses of procedures to support optimal patient care and adheres to hospital laboratory policies.

The position requires CLIA-88 based qualification, Georgia licensure, MT certification, and ability to perform phlebotomy and point-of-care testing. Expect day-to-day lab operations with strict safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Qualifies as a technologist according to CLIA-88 standards and the Georgia Clinical Laboratory Licensure Law.
  • Must be registered with a recognized Medical Technologist certifying agency such as ASCP, AMT, HHS/HEW, AAB or others as an MT.
  • Knowledge and skills to provide care including phlebotomy for laboratory testing and Point of Care testing.
  • Ability to assess and interpret data about the patient status to address age-specific needs.
  • Normal color vision to discriminate and verify diagnostic stains and color-dependent tests.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for quality performance and reporting of analyses of technical procedures for optimal patient care.
  • Operate laboratory equipment and handle specimens in accordance with laboratory policy and procedures.
  • Comply with FDA, JCAHO, CAP, STATE, AABB, OSHA regulations and safety standards.
  • Adhere to biohazard safety, PPE protocols and SDS knowledge in daily work.

JOB LOCATION : Main Campus

DEPARTMENT: PM LAB

SCHEDULE: Full Time, 7on/7off, 2100-0730 weekdays 1900-0730 weekend

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for quality performance and reporting of analyses of technical procedures for the benefit of optimal patient care within the limits of laboratory policy and procedures according to FDA, JCAHO, CAP, STATE, AABB, OSHA regulations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Qualifies as a technologist according to CLIA-88 standards and the Georgia Clinical Laboratory Licensure Law.
  • Must be registered with a recognized Medical Technologist certifying agency such as ASCP, AMT, HHS/HEW, AAB or others as an MT.
  • Persons who possess the technologist qualifications under Georgia State regulations and have recently moved to the state and/or have never worked as a medical technologist in the state or have recently completed the academic and training/experience requirements may be temporarily classified once as a technologists for 12 months to afford the persons an opportunity to successfully complete an approved qualifying examination.
  • Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care (i. e. Phlebotomy for laboratory testing and Point of Care testing) appropriate to the age of the patient’s seen in their assigned area.
  • Must be able to assess and interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide the care needed by our patient groups (i. e. , neonate, pediatric, adolescent and/or geriatric). Normal color vision in order to discriminate and verify diagnostic laboratory stains and color dependent test.
WORKING CONDITIONS- ADA INFORMATION:

Modern hospital Laboratory. Work activities will include: light lifting (not to exceed 25 pounds), walking, sitting, standing, stooping, bending, twisting and pushing objects. Must be able to operate office equipment, computer terminals and keyboards, and computerized lab equipment. Works with blood and body fluids where exposure to infections disease is a risk. Must have knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and training in handling of hazardous chemicals. Complies with biohazard/radiation safety standards and laboratory policy and procedures through proper handling of potentially hazardous chemical, biological agents and/or radiation sources in the workplace. Uses standard precautions and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including eye protection, face shields, lab coats, and /or gloves to protect self and co-workers from biohazards materials, including blood-borne pathogens.
