Job summary

Galen Medical Group in Hixson, TN seeks a Medical Technologist for a part-time role (2-3 days per week). Under supervision, you will perform clinical laboratory tests, QC procedures, and maintain records in a patient-focused environment.

The ideal candidate is Tennessee-licensed as a Medical Technologist, with a Bachelor's in Laboratory Technology and strong attention to safety and compliance with Galen policies.

Qualifications

  • Must be licensed by the State of Tennessee as a Medical Technologist.
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited Laboratory Technologist program.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Perform medical laboratory tests and analyses under supervision.
  • Conduct quality control, calibration, and instrument checks.
  • Record test results and maintain documentation.
  • Maintain supplies and ensure equipment and safety compliance.
  • Communicate results to physicians and physicians' offices.

Role will be 2-3 days per week, Schedule to be determined

Summary/Objective:

Under close supervision performs clinical procedures which require defined skills and responsibilities. Performs all tasks in a safe manner and in accordance with Galen safety and health programs.

Essential Functions:
  • Under the direct supervision of a qualified supervisor, perform medical laboratory tests, procedures and analyses assigned to the department, efficiently and accurately.
  • Perform quality control, calibration and instrument check procedures and maintain related records.
  • Record test results on the appropriate data processing or other forms in use in the laboratory.
  • Reports non-functioning or poorly functioning equipment to the Laboratory Director.
  • Maintain quality/quantity standards regarding output.
  • Calls all panic values to physicians and aids in calls from clients.
  • Answers telephone and questions as needed.
  • Must maintain laboratory certification and license at all times.
  • Performs all duties in compliance with Galen clinical policies and OSHA standards.
  • Ensures that adequate supplies are maintained at location at all times.
Other Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Maintains clean and neat work area.
  • Make recommendations for any improvements in operation of the laboratory system.
  • Assist other personnel in the performance on their duties as assigned and as workload permits.
  • Function as relief for other personnel in the office as appropriate and to facilitate co- workers' absence in the lab.
  • Recognize and demonstrate cost effective measures in utilization of supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain strictest confidentiality of all company records, including verbal and written records.
  • Other duties as assign by the Laboratory Director.
Knowledge/Expectations/Abilities:
  • Records maintenance skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain calendars and schedule appointments.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.
  • Word processing and/or data entry skills.
  • Skill in the use of operating basic office equipment.
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
  • Organizing and coordination skills.

  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient, medical, financial, and legal information.
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled.

QualificationsQualifications:
Education
  • High School Diploma
  • Bachelor's Degree from accredited Laboratory Technologist program required.
Experience
  • Must be licensed by the State of Tennessee as a Medical Technologist.
Skills/Certifications
  • Exceptional skills of organization, analysis, verbal and written communication, problem-solving, professional interaction, and human relation skills
  • Must be PC literate with strong computer navigational skills
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn; Must be team player.
  • Ability to work within specified timeframe requirements, including timeframes for goal achievement.
