Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina Health (MUSC Health) is seeking Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join our clinical lab team. You will perform a range of testing and produce timely results to support patient care.

Education and certification requirements include ASCP MT/MLS or ASCP MLT certifications, with CLIA qualification adherence. This role offers hourly pay, 36 hours per week, and opportunities to grow in a busy hospital laboratory.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• ASCP MT or MLS certification (or equivalent) required.
• ASCP MLT certification for the MLT track; CLIA testing personnel qualification compliance.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine, specialized, moderate, and high-complexity laboratory testing on blood and body fluids.
• Produce accurate, reliable, and timely test results to support patient-care decisions.
• Follow quality control and quality assurance standards and maintain records.
• Conduct instrument checks, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance as needed.
• Assist in orientation and training of new staff and students.

What You’ll Do

As a member of our laboratory team, you will:

• Perform routine, specialized, moderate, and high-complexity laboratory testing on blood and body fluid specimens within the scope of your qualifications
• Produce accurate, reliable, and timely test results that support critical patient-care decisions
• Follow established quality control and quality assurance standards
• Perform instrument function checks, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance
• Maintain required laboratory records, documentation, and statistical data in accordance with regulatory requirements
• Assist throughout laboratory areas as needed to support efficient operations and patient care
• Collect chain-of-custody urine drug screens as required
• Help orient and train new employees and students on laboratory policies and procedures
• Collaborate with a team of healthcare professionals committed to quality, accuracy, and exceptional patient care
• Provide coverage for other shifts when necessary to support laboratory operations

Medical Technologist (MT)

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and medical laboratory experience meeting applicable qualification requirements.

Certification: Medical Technologist or Medical Lab Science (MT or MLS) with the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.

Must meet applicable qualification requirements for testing personnel under 42 CFR §493.1489.

Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)

Education: Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and medical laboratory experience meeting applicable qualification requirements.

Certification: Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) with the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

Must meet applicable CLIA testing personnel qualification requirements.
