Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital in Stark County is hiring Medical Technologists, Med Lab Technicians, and Lab Technicians for night shifts 10:00pm-6:30am. You will follow lab procedures, ensure quality control, and maintain complete records for patient test results.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in a lab science, meets CLIA high-complexity qualifications, and will participate in continuing education and proficiency testing. A sign-on bonus of up to $5,000 is available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology.
  • Meets CLIA qualifications for high complexity testing.
  • Diploma and/or transcripts must be provided.
  • Education will be verified.
  • Education outside the United States requires translation and NACES equivalency proof.

Responsibilities

  • Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, testing, reporting and record keeping.
  • Maintain regulatory knowledge related to duties.
  • Adhere to QC policies and document calibrations/maintenance.
  • Address QA issues and notify supervisors when needed.
  • Maintain instruments per manufacturer specifications.
  • Ensure documentation practices and clear records.
  • Perform proficiency testing per CLIA requirements.
  • Participate in continuing education and competency assessments.
  • Follow policies when tests are out of range.
  • Identify problems affecting test performance and escalate as needed.
  • May train students, employees, and residents.

This caregiver demonstrates an understanding of the theory and scientific principles of laboratory testing, as well as the technical, procedural and problem-solving aspects. We will hire our clinical laboratory testing personnel in three different job titles, based on educational background:
  • Medical Technologist
  • Med Lab Technician
  • Lab Technician
A caregiver in this role works nights, 10:00pm-6:30am.

A caregiver who excels in this role, will:

  • Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
  • Maintain regulatory knowledge and awareness as it pertains to specific job duties.
  • Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
  • Assume responsibility for and take action regarding any quality control or quality assurance issues as it pertains to specific job duties.
  • Maintain instruments and equipment in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Assume responsibility for good documentation practices and maintain clear and legible records.
  • Perform proficiency testing in compliance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations i.e. analyze proficiency survey sample in the same manner as a patient specimens, no communication with other CLIA laboratories, complete record retention and accurate documentation and result reporting.
  • Assume responsibility for participation in continuing education, professional development and required annual competency assessment.
  • Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the General Supervisor, Technical Supervisor, Clinical Consultant, or Laboratory Director.
  • May function as an educator and provides instruction and training in theory, technical skills, safety protocols, and the application of laboratory test protocols to students, employees, residents, etc.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal caregiver include:
  • Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution
  • Meets the CLIA qualifications for high complexity testing personnel grandfathering clause. See Code of Federal Regulations, Title 42,
  • 493.1489(b)(5) Standards; High Complexity Testing Personnel Qualifications
  • *Diploma and/or transcripts must be provided
  • *Education will be verified
  • *Education outside of the United States requires diploma/transcripts translated into English and proof of foreign equivalency from a NACES (National Association Credential Evaluation Services, Inc) member
Preferred qualifications for the ideal caregiver include:
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT, MLT or MLS) or certification eligible from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • PCR knowledge
  • Pipetting experience
  • The compensation range provided corresponds to the Medical Technologist/MLT/Lab Technician position. Individual pay rates may vary depending on licensure level and relevant experience.
Physical Requirements:
  • Physical demands include: Visual acuity to study specimens under a microscope.
  • The ability to distinguish colors.
  • Fine motor skills and manual dexterity to handle specimens and lab equipment required to process specimens and repair equipment.
  • May be required to stand for long periods of time.
  • Light lifting may be required.
  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, biohazards, radioactive materials, etc.
Personal Protective Equipment:
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $26.25

Maximum hourly: $36.13
