Job description

The Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) works PRN from 11pm to 7:30am, performing and interpreting laboratory tests at all complexity levels. The role requires application of scientific principles, technical and procedural skills, and problem‑solving to support patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining accurate records of results.
  • Maintain regulatory knowledge related to specific job duties.
  • Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies; document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
  • Take responsibility for quality control or quality assurance issues that arise.
  • Maintain instruments and equipment according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Ensure clear and legible documentation practices.
  • Perform proficiency testing in compliance with CLIA regulations, including analysis of proficiency survey samples and accurate documentation.
  • Participate in continuing education, professional development, and annual competency assessment.
  • Follow established policies and procedures when test systems fall outside acceptable performance levels.
  • Identify problems that may affect test performance or reporting, and immediately notify the General Supervisor, Technical Supervisor, Clinical Consultant, or Laboratory Director.
  • May serve as an educator, providing instruction and training in theory, technical skills, safety protocols, and laboratory test protocols to students, employees, residents, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • Meets the CLIA qualifications for high‑complexity testing personnel grandfathering clause (see 42 CFR 493.1489(b)(5)).
  • Diploma and/or transcripts provided and verified; foreign education must be translated into English and evaluated by a NACES member.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT, MLT, or MLS) or eligible for certification by ASCP or AMT.
  • Payment is based on the role of Medical Technologist/MLT/Lab Technician and varies with licensure level and experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Visual acuity for microscope use; ability to differentiate color, hue, saturation and tones.
  • Fine motor skills and manual dexterity for specimen handling, equipment processing, and repair.
  • May stand for long periods and lift light objects.
  • Potential exposure to hazardous chemicals, biohazards, and radioactive materials.
Personal Protective Equipment
  • Follow standard precautions and use personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range

Minimum hourly: $38.80
Maximum hourly: $38.80

The pay range reflects anticipated compensation for new hires, calibrated based on work history, experience, skill set, and education. It does not include shift differentials, overtime, or the value of the Cleveland Clinic benefits package (healthcare, dental, vision, retirement savings, etc.).
