Job summary

Regional One Health in Memphis, Tennessee is seeking a dedicated Clinical Laboratory Technician. Job Summary

Performs various clinical laboratory tests and procedures to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of diseases, following established standards, practices and procedures and exercising independent/correlated judgment. Interprets and reports test results in an accurate and timely manner. Assists in the supervision of Medical Lab Technicians. Performs duties on an as needed basis as defined by the PRN guidelines.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Performs clinical lab tests and procedures in specimen procurement, examination and analysis accurately and promptly, following standards, infection control and patient safety practices. Performs tests in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, coagulation, blood gases, cardiac testing, transfusion testing, CBC with Diff, PT, PTT, glucose, lactate, acetaminophen, pregnancy, BMP, and microbiology procedures.
  • Prepares blood samples for diagnostic testing by adding the specified preservative or anticoagulant. Determines acceptability of specimens and documents unacceptable ones per policy.
  • Receives and processes patient specimens (including centrifuging, inoculations, staining), performs quality control and ensures all testing meets established ranges before releasing results.
  • Analyzes and reports lab test results timely, records results in a permanent log, and routes laboratory reports to the patient’s area as needed.
  • Utilizes patient computer systems and laboratory information systems to enter and retrieve patient data and lab results.
  • Interacts and works collaboratively in a customer‑responsive manner, maintaining communication with nursing units regarding statistics, abnormal results or instrument malfunctions.
  • Prepares and maintains required records, reports and files for administrative and compliance purposes.
  • Complies with state and regulatory requirements, follows policies and quality improvement standards and safety, environmental and infection control standards to ensure validity of results.
  • Maintains equipment, instruments and supplies; performs equipment checks, maintenance and troubleshooting, reporting malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patient/family, department and hospital information, adhering to HIPAA and other confidentiality policies.
  • Provides instruction, assigns and supervises MLT and other support personnel to complete lab tasks and provide clinical assistance.
  • Completes required continuous training and education, participates in unit‑based performance improvement activities and committees, and responds to opportunities to improve the work environment.
  • Provides coverage for relief and absences, demonstrating flexibility to work night, weekend and holiday to provide continuous laboratory coverage as required, including on‑call and backup coverage.
Qualifications
Education
  • Graduate of an approved Medical Technology program. (Required)
  • Qualified by education, training or experience to work with the neonate, infant, toddler, adolescent, adult, and/or geriatric patient population as specialty assignment dictates. (Required)
Work Experience
  • Experience in patient care as obtained through completion of an approved Medical Technology program. (Required)
