Job summary

Surgery Partners, Inc. is seeking a Laboratory Technician to perform a variety of medical laboratory tests and analyses to support patient diagnosis and treatment. The role requires independent work on standard tests and microscopic examinations in a hospital laboratory environment.

Applicants should have a Medical Technology degree, current registration or eligibility, and at least two years of phlebotomy and specimen processing experience. BLS certification is required.

Qualifications

• Degree from an accredited college and completion of an accredited Medical Technology Program.
• Currently registered or eligible for registration as Medical Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
• Two years of phlebotomy and skin puncture experience with analytical specimen processing in a hospital lab.
• Experience in a chemical laboratory or familiarity with analytical chemistry is a plus.
• Flexibility in work tasks and ability to work with others in the lab; BLS required.

Responsibilities

• Draws blood, stores samples for procedures, and reports to the ordering physician.
• Prepares samples for analysis using standard lab techniques.
• Monitors procedures and tests, operating laboratory equipment to detect microorganisms.
• Analyzes chemical content and performs transfusion matching for blood products.
• Cleans and maintains the laboratory environment.

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing a variety of medical laboratory tests and analysis to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Works independently in performing standard laboratory tests and microscopic examinations.

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing a variety of medical laboratory tests and analysis to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Works independently in performing standard laboratory tests and microscopic examinations.

Requirements

• Degree from accredited college and completion of an accredited Medical Technology Program.
• Must be currently registered or eligible for registration as a Medical Technologist of Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
• Two years of previous phlebotomy and skin puncture experience on patients ranging in age from neonate to geriatric and analytical specimen processing experience in a hospital clinical laboratory.
• Experience working in a chemical laboratory or some familiarity with analytical chemistry is a plus, but not mandatory.
• Flexibility in work arrangements, you may be asked to perform the same task for an extended period of time or to perform different tasks on the same day.
• Ability to work with other people at the laboratory bench.
• Familiarity with Microsoft office software.
• BLS required.

Essential Functions

• Draws blood, stores test sample for necessary procedure and reports out to ordering physician.
• Prepare samples for analysis.
• Monitor procedures and tests in the lab, utilizing laboratory equipment to look for dangerous microorganisms in samples.
• Analyze the chemical content of the samples, matching blood that is to be used in transfusions. Screens and processes incoming patients.
• Cleans and maintains laboratory.
