Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Technology is required.
• Bachelor's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science is preferred.
• ASCP or equivalent licensure/credentialing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests for diagnosis and treatment.
• Evaluate and report patient results with independent judgment.
• Maintain quality control and contribute to lab procedures and safety.
• Train staff and assist in method development as needed.

Job description

Overview

Performs routine and specialized laboratory tests and other procedures for use in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Utilizes requisite equipment, instruments, and computer systems. Evaluates and reports patient results using considerable independent judgment within the scope of established testing methods. Updates knowledge, skills and applies appropriately. Maintains age-specific and other required competencies. Performs quality control procedures and contributes to the maintenance of the laboratory, equipment, and supplies. Assists in the development and implementation of new procedures, instrumentation, etc. May assume responsibility for one or more laboratory projects or functions - i.e. PI, safety, quality control, regulatory, administrative, staff development, computer (LIS, HIS, hospital intranet, PC applications), etc. Trains new employees and/or students in the theoretical and operational aspects of procedures and evaluates their work. Acts as a resource for less experienced co-workers. Performs other duties as assigned. Works both independently and as part of a team with general supervision/periodic review by supervisory staff.
