Under the general direction of the Laboratory Director, the Medical Technologist will independently perform routine and complex laboratory procedures, testing on medical specimens, may collect other bodily fluid specimens, label and transport specimens to the lab, input data into the computer and report results of laboratory tests in accordance with TJC, federal, state, and local guidelines, organizational and departmental policies, and procedures. Communicates with medical staff, other departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality. Position requires self-motivation, creativity, and capabilities to function in a semi-autonomous role within a fast pace and dynamic environment.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Level of Education: Completion of a bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology in clinical laboratory science, biomedical science, medical technology or in a life / biological science or closely related sciences with credit hours meeting AMT or ASCP registry and meets the Georgia requirement of a technologist as defined in DCH law Code of Georgia of a technologist Chapter 111-8-10-.06(4)(b)1-8
Licensure, Certification, Registration: Certification or Registry as a medical technologist or medical laboratory scientist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), AMT (American Medical Technologists) or AAB (American Association of Bioanalyst) according to the qualifications through the State of Georgia Department of Community Health, Healthcare Facility, Clinical Laboratory regulations. For person who possess Medical Technologist qualifications and have recently moved into the state of Georgia or recently completed the academic and training/experience requirements may be temporarily classified as technologists for eighteen (18) months only to afford the person an opportunity to successfully complete an approved qualifying examination. AAB provisional certification not accepted.
Work Experience: Two years of pertinent laboratory experience required and one year of hospital-based laboratory experience preferred.
