Job summary

Frio Regional Hospital is seeking a Medical Technologist to work with the laboratory team, performing specimen processing and moderate to high complexity testing. You will analyze body fluids, perform blood typing, and ensure accurate data entry in the LIS, while maintaining instrument quality controls and safety standards.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science and certification within 12 months of hire, with CPR certification.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Performs moderate and high complexity testing in collaboration with the lab team.

Description:

Summary

Medical Technologist, in collaboration with the Laboratory team, performs specimen processing and testing independently to include moderate and high complexity testing in medical laboratory to provide data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease by performing the following duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conducts chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid, to determine presence of normal and abnormal components.
• Studies blood cells, their numbers, and morphology.
• Performs blood group, type, and compatibility tests for transfusion purposes.
• Analyzes test results and enters findings in computer.
• Performs quality control studies to ensure accuracy of clinical data.
• Performs routine preventative maintenance on assigned instruments and equipment according to established schedule and procedure.
• Verifies instrument functioning by checking and calibrating specific lab instruments and documents data.
• Records on instrument logs any repairs, replacement, and maintenance needed of equipment.
• Knowledge of laboratory technical skills and medical terminology.
• General computer skills, including but not limited to using required software applications, data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, handheld scanning, and email.
• Verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to problem solve.
• Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions, and make recommendations.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

Graduate of an accredited bachelor’s degree program.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Medical Technologist, American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) or American

Medical Technologist (AMT) certification required within 12 months of hire date.
