Job summary

Decypher is seeking a Medical Technologist to perform automated and manual clinical laboratory testing across chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, serology, bacteriology, immunohematology, and phlebotomy, in accordance with established protocols. Responsibilities include preparing and evaluating specimens, operating and maintaining instruments, conducting quality control, and reporting results using a laboratory information system.

U.S. Citizenship is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in medical technology or related field.
• Certification: BLS from AHA or Red Cross.
• At least 1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory; rotation through all sections during training.

Responsibilities

• Perform automated and manual laboratory procedures across chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, serology, bacteriology, immunohematology and phlebotomy according to established protocols.
• Prepare specimens for analysis and evaluate specimen suitability.
• Calibrate, standardize, adjust and maintain laboratory instruments; verify instrument performance with quality control checks.
• Prepare reagents and reference materials as needed; report results via the laboratory information system.
• Ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards and maintain accurate records.

Job Summary: The medical technologist will perform automated and manual clinical laboratory testing in areas including chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, serology, bacteriology, immunohematology, and phlebotomy according to established protocols. Prepare and evaluate specimens, operate and maintain laboratory instruments, perform quality control procedures, and accurately report results using laboratory information systems.

Required Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor's degree. Graduate from a medical technology program
  accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or
  the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or educational program
  acceptable to the American Medical Technologist (AMT).
• Certifications:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through an American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Experience: One year of experience working in the clinical lab as a Medical
  Technologist. Minimum of a six-month rotation through all sections of a medical laboratory as a part of training required to gain certification.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform a full range of automated and non-automated laboratory procedures in the areas of chemistry, urinalysis, hematology, serology, bacteriology, phlebotomy and immunohematology according to established protocols.
• Determine the suitability of specimens for analysis.
• Prepare specimens for analysis and ensure that the physiologic state of the properties is maintained.
• Prepare reagents and primary reference materials as necessary.
• Calibrate, standardize, adjust, and maintain instruments.
• Verify correct instrument operation using established procedures and quality control checks.
• Identify the cause of common problems and make simple repairs.
• Recognize and react to indicators of malfunction.
• Locate and implement corrections.
• Obtain analytical data, convert to a prescribed unit of reporting, as necessary, and correlate data to verify results.
• Conduct quality control procedures on equipment, reagents and products and maintain proper records for quality control and quality assurance reports.
• Use various clinical automation systems as required, such as, but not limited to the laboratory information system and DMHRSi.
• Laboratory personnel shall receive training prior to commencing services.
• Perform all duties in such a manner that they meet all Joint Commission Standards.
• Must be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results, and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical supervisor, clinical consultant, or director.
• Shall answer questions as to the location of various organizational segments and their functions and direct patients to appropriate clinic, department, laboratory, X-ray site, or examination room.

Work Environment & Schedule: 4x10-hour shifts per week.

Physical requirements: Ability to lift and carry up to 20-30 lbs of laboratory supplies, reagents, or equipment independently.
