Job summary

OneBlood is seeking a Medical Technologist/Lab Technician to join our Florida laboratory team in Saint Augustine. The role includes night shift work (3rd shift) with a possible weekend differential, and an initial training phase on day shifts followed by transition to night hours until independent sign-off.

The position requires a biological sciences degree and licensure in Immunohematology or Blood Banking, with related experience and strong compliance with high-complexity testing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a biological science or related field.
• One year of Medical Technologist experience or equivalent.
• Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist license in Immunohematology or Blood Banking.
• If working in a state without licensure, meet CLIA high complexity requirements.

Responsibilities

• Accepts, verifies and processes incoming blood and blood components or samples.
• Performs and interprets testing procedures on donor and patient specimens and blood products.
• Maintains and monitors records, written or electronic.
• Performs quality control, equipment maintenance and calibration.
• Identifies and resolves potential patient care issues related to transfusion.
• Oversees Lab Assistants and Lab Technicians as required.
• Utilizes computer system to obtain data and record results.
• Participates in monitoring to identify errors or problems.
• Participates in an on-call rotation.
• Performs essential Lab Technician duties as needed.

Job description

Work Schedule Monday - Thursday, on 3rd shift, 900 pm - 700 am; rotating holiday coverage required.

Training Schedule Initial 2 weeks Monday - Friday, on 1st shift, 700 am - 330 pm. Following day-shift orientation, will transition to night schedule, 1000 pm - 630 am, until completion of training and independent sign-off.

Based upon when hours are worked, position may include a 3rd shift and weekend differential of $7.50 - $12.00 per hour.

• Performs and interprets various testing procedures on donor and patient specimens as well as blood products, repeating tests where appropriate
• Maintains and monitors required records and files, written or electronic
• Performs quality control, equipment maintenance and calibration as required
• Identifies and resolves potential patient care issues related to transfusion
• Provides oversight and direction of Lab Assistants and Lab Technicians as required
• Utilizes computer system to obtain necessary data and to record test results
• Participates in the ongoing monitoring for each testing process to identify errors or potential problems leading to errors
• Participates in an on-call rotation
• Performs the essential functions of the Lab Technician and Lab Assistant as needed.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in a biological science or related scientific field from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of Medical Technologist experience or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND DESIGNATIONS

In Florida, a valid and current Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist license in Immunohematology or Blood Banking. In certain specialty laboratories other Florida licenses may be required. If working in a state without laboratory personnel licensure requirements, must meet current CLIA requirements for high complexity testing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to periodically perform moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds). (Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment.) Tasks may involve some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling or prolonged sitting or standing.
